It's been close to a year since I've last had steak. So, it was time for another steak-out.
This time it was a special occasion too, which was my belated 3rd-anniversary celebration. Thus, I decided to take the wifey out for a "fancy dinner". I owe it to her since I couldn't make it on time back in December. It was now my turn to overcompensate.
She's been wanting to have steak at this place for quite a while now, it's a restaurant named Mambo's Diner, in Khulna. And if any of you can remember, we were here back in 2022. Back then it was fairly new, it had just gotten into the business months prior.
Now, however, they're quite well-known and are one of the very few "fancy restaurants" in Khulna.
We planned to go there for dinner. So, we got ready at around 8:30 PM and reached the restaurant within 20 minutes or so, as the clock closed in towards the 9 PM mark.
We had already checked the menu online before coming here. There's no point in wasting time again browsing the menu. However, I had planned to go for the T-Bone steak, but the waiter suggested we go for their "new and premium" Tenderloin steak instead.
So, we went with his suggestion; he's the expert here.
Along with the tenderloin steak done medium rare, we went with the very affordable chicken steak. Both dishes with two sides of mashed potato and garlic mushrooms. The addition of a special mushroom sauce and BBQ sauce was simply the icing on top. Too good!
It took around 30 to 40 minutes for the steaks to be prepped.
For me and my wife and the history of dates we've been on, this was certainly the most we've had to wait. It was also the most money we'd spent on a date lol. The whole meal cost us around $30. Which may seem cheap for most of the world, but in this region, that's around 15% of the average person's monthly salary.
Usually, I spend half of this amount on dates, but this time I decided not to look at the price tags.
So, we waited. As people started to come in and fill up the restaurant. Some even came after us, finished their dinner, and left before we could even start eating haha.
After quite the wait, lo and behold, our steaks had finally arrived.
I was famished since I didn't have lunch that day. I guess my plan was to fill up my tummy with a ton of steak. From the steak to the sauces, everything was perfect. The chicken steak was the bang for the buck since it was a quarter of the price of the tenderloin steak.
My wife and I tried both, and I liked both, but my wife was most impressed with the chicken steak and its value. She was more interested in the mashed potato, and I couldn't blame her, the mashed potato was quite good, but I've tasted better before.
It took us quite a lot of time to finish the steaks, and my wife was having a hard time cutting up the steak lol. So, I had to assist her there. Yet, about 20 minutes later or so, we were done.
Then I went ahead and ordered two burgers for takeaway. For our late-night gossip or movie sessions.
The Alpine burger was new, along with a bigger meaty burger named the Starboy. But, the staff and manager there suggested we at least eat the Alpine burger then and there. Because it tasted the best straight off the grill. So, we got the Starboy packed for takeaway and waited for the Alpine burger to reach our table.
By then we tried to clear up some space for the burger, but my wife couldn't. So, I had to finish it all alone, and I promised that I'd bring her back here ASAP just for the Alpine burger lol.
The Alpine is a true classic burger I'd say. Just a special blend of white sauce and a grilled beef patty. That's it. I say there's nothing better! I hate a saucy mess. The only two additions I like are cheddar cheese and mushrooms, and sometimes onions too.
Alas, people in our country prefer the saucy wet mess instead. Yet, who am I to judge? I guess my taste buds don't go well with my countrymen.
All in all, it was a night to remember. The steaks were so good, that even after 3 to 4 days, I'm still daydreaming of having their steaks again.
But, that'll have to wait...
