Making your favorite cake and succeeding is fun
This time I made my favorite cake and it is a must have during Eid al-Fitr. Nastar, a cake filled with pineapple jam wrapped in soft and tasty bread, will make you hungry when you taste it. I've always liked pineapple. And every Eid al-Fitr holiday I definitely make it. And for some reason I prefer my own homemade nastar to the nastar sold in shops. Maybe because I'm proud of my own work...hahaha.
OK, I will share my homemade nastar recipe, even though it uses simple ingredients, I think the results are delicious. These are the ingredients.
Ingredients for making pineapple jam
- 1 medium sized pineapple
- 250 gr sugar
Ingredients for bread spread
- 1 whole egg
- I egg yolk
- A little turmeric
Ingredients for making bread
- 250 gr margarine
- 50 gr butter
- 300 gr wheat flour
- 100 gr maezena flour
- 2 eggs
- 150 gr sugar flour
Steps to make pineapple jam
- Peel the pineapple, then cut into pieces and blend until smooth
- Cook the pineapple until the water dries up a little
- Next add sugar, it's best not to add all the sugar first, because if there's too much sugar, the pineapple jam will be hard, but if there's not enough sugar the pineapple jam will be soft and the color won't be good.
- When cooking the jam you have to stir it regularly so it doesn't burn. But be careful because when cooked the jam tends to explode and can get on your hands, and it feels very hot. If the color of the jam is golden brown, it means there is enough sugar, but if the color remains yellow and doesn't thicken, it means the jam doesn't have enough sugar, so add sugar little by little.
- When the jam is ready, remove from heat and let it cool
Steps to make spread
- Break 2 eggs, one whole egg and the other, just take the yolk, stir, and don't forget to add a little ground turmeric, so the color is lighter.
Steps to make bread
- Put margarine, butter and sugar flour into a bowl, then beat until the sugar and margarine are mixed.
- Add the egg yolks to the butter that has been beaten with the sugar and stir until combined.
- Add the flour and cornstarch little by little, knead until the dough can be molded. I made the dough a little soft so it was easy to mold.
- I molded the dough using a syringe cake mold which has a serrated top and bottom to give it a beautiful shape.
- Place the cooled pineapple mixture onto the long molded dough, then roll it up and the pineapple cake is ready to be baked.
- Preheat the oven first, then add and bake the molded nastar. The baking time depends on the oven you use.
- After baking for about 10 minutes, take out the nastar then brush with egg wash to produce a beautiful color for the nastar cake.
- When it is perfectly cooked and the spread looks dry and shiny, remove the nastar, and the nastar is ready to be served.
This is my homemade rolled nastar, which is beautiful and delicious, and my mandatory cake when celebrating Eid al-Fitr. Hope it is useful. Thank You. regards
