Top 6 Most Famous Desi Breakfast Places in Stockholm, Sweden – Curated by Shahzad Ansari
When I moved to Sweden back in 2005, the idea of enjoying a proper Pakistani or Indian breakfast was almost a fantasy. Sure, there were a few Desi restaurants scattered around but Desi Breakfast or weekend Desi brunch? That didn’t exist. Forget Halwa Puri or Chana Bhatura — even chai that tasted like home was hard to find.
The now-famous Anmol didn’t even exist back then. It opened much later, around 2019. So during those early years, you could only dream of a true Desi Nashta in Stockholm.
But slowly, the food scene began to grow. More Desi restaurants started popping up across the Stockholm city. The only problem? Authenticity, taste and quality were still hit-or-miss. You could find butter chicken or Chicken Tikka Masala almost anywhere but good Paratha, Channe Baturay or Halwa Puri? That was a rare gem.
🔥 Tony Qureshi | The First Spark
The first spark came from Tony Qureshi, the man behind Chili Masala. He launched a weekend brunch menu with dishes like Nihari and Paaye, finally bringing bold Pakistani flavors to the mainstream. The timing was more "lunch" than "nashta", but it was a much-needed beginning.
👑 Ishtiaq Husain Shah | The Game-Changer
Then came Ishtiaq Hussain Shah, with a true game-changer: Stockholm’s first full-on Desi Breakfast Buffet, launched in the industrial area of Spånga. With a mithai counter on one side and breakfast on the other, it felt like stepping into a Pakistani halwai shop. No nearby tunnelbana, pendeltåg or even direct bus, but people still came. Because when the food is good, people find a way.
💬 Why This Blog?
Today in 2025, there’s no shortage of Desi brunch and breakfast spots in Stockholm. From Halwa Puri to Paaye and Doodh Jaleebi to Falooda, we finally have choices. And that’s why I decided to write this blog, not just to list places, but to rank the best of the best, based on what really matters to a Desi food lover.
✅ How I Rate Each Spot:
I’m keeping it simple. Every place in this blog is reviewed based on 5 things that matter most:
- Taste (Zaiqa) – Kya asli swaad aya?
- Value for Money – Paisa vasool ya mehenga disappointment?
- Cleanliness & Ambience – Saaf suthra environment & vibes?
- Service – Staff ka attitude aur experience
- Authenticity & Desi Vibe – Kya lagta hai Pakistan/India mein hoon ya Sweden mein?
🍽️ Indian Street Food & Co. – Chana Bhatura by the Water
📍 Jan Inghes Torg 22, Hammarby Sjöstad, Stockholm
//:# (!worldmappin 59.30913 lat 18.10374 long d3scr)
🕘 Breakfast Timing: 09:00 – 12:00 (Seasonal – returns in September)
💰 Price: 109kr per plate (no buffet)
Indian Street Food & Co. in Hammarby Sjöstad is one of those places where the vibe and the food come together perfectly. We went on a Saturday morning, excited to explore their breakfast options. They offered three Desi classics:
- Chana Bhatura
- Aloo Halwa Puri
- Kulcha Chana
And of course, Masala Chai.
All five of us ordered Chana Bhatura and honestly, it was a full-on flavor party. The two large, fluffy bhaturas were golden and soft, not oily or chewy. The chana had the kind of spice balance that doesn’t scream — it sings. And then came the chutney — a sweet-sour tamarind-onion mix that tied everything together like a perfect playlist.
Even while writing this, I can still taste that bite — warm, tangy, and comforting.
👨🍳 Special Touch: After we finished, the staff brought out complimentary Ras Malai. We were surprised we hadn’t ordered it. The server smiled and said, “It’s from Dheeraj sir, our chef, as a gift.” And yes, he was in the kitchen that day. The gesture, the Ras Malai, the hospitality everything felt royal.
Ambience & Location: The restaurant has a clean, modern interior with huge glass windows. If you sit by the window or outside, you get a view of the water — peaceful, breezy, and almost poetic for a breakfast spot. It’s the kind of place you want to stay at longer than planned.

If there’s one place in Stockholm where you can truly feel like you’ve walked into a proper Desi shaadi-style brunch, it’s Jalvi Indian Food. Tucked into a quiet corner of Solna, this restaurant offers one of the most complete Desi Nashta buffets in Stockholm — and trust me, they don’t hold back.
Ambience & Location: From the moment you walk in, the ambience feels festive. Think colorful lights, cushioned seating, and wooden tables neatly lined with folded napkins. And yes, they’ve got traditional Pakistani décor like cultural kites and miniature truck art lining the walls — a vibe that makes you feel like you're back in Lahore or Rawalpindi.
But the real star? The buffet.
With over 10 dishes on display, you’ll find:

We went on a Sunday and walking in felt like entering someone’s house during a festive Desi gathering. Big families, aunties chatting, plates stacked with Halwa Puri, egg, soup and nihari. This place doesn’t just serve food — it serves nostalgia.
The Halwa Puri combo was fresh and full of flavor and the Nihari had a deep, meaty richness that stayed with us long after the meal.
🪑 Ambience & Crowd: Located inside Kom Köpcentrum, Zain Chaska Chowk has a simple but cozy setup. It’s not your typical high-end brunch spot and that’s the beauty of it. The focus is on the food and the people.
Even with basic seating, the place comes alive on weekends. You’ll hear Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi echoing across the room, with Desi uncles sharing stories, kids running back for more Puris and someone always asking for extra Chai.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly Desi breakfast in Stockholm, Sukh Indian Restaurant in Sollentuna is one of the most reliable weekend spots.
Their Halwa Puri deal is simple, traditional and honestly — just what you need when you're craving a proper Nashta. For only 99 kr, you get unlimited Puri, Chane, Halwa and chai. That’s it — no fuss, no long buffet lines — just a plate that hits home.
We tried this classic combo on a Saturday and it felt like a throwback to childhood Sunday mornings. The Puris were fresh and hot, the chana had a rich, homemade taste and the Halwa was sweet, soft and topped with a few almonds for that extra touch.
🪑 Ambience & Note: Sukh Indian is a smaller, quiet place — nothing flashy, but clean and cozy. There’s limited indoor seating, so it’s best to go early or with a small group.

We finally visited Royal Sweets in Stockholm to experience their much-talked-about Desi buffet. The first thing that stands out? The ambience.
They’ve done a beautiful renovation — ceiling lights, table arrangements and decor give it a festive, almost wedding-hall-like feel. It’s spacious, clean, and perfect for group gatherings.
The buffet itself had a wide variety — from flavorful curries to rice, snacks, and sweets. There’s clearly effort and thought behind the menu, and the presentation was elegant.
🍛 The Taste Test While the flavors didn’t blow us away, the food was enjoyable.
Some dishes felt like they could’ve used more spice or seasoning to bring them to life — but we understand buffet cooking is a challenge, especially when serving large groups.
It’s not that the food was bad — far from it. But for those expecting bold, homemade-style flavors in every bite, it may feel a little mild.
🪑 Ambience & Decor: This is one area where Royal Sweets shines. The space feels welcoming, festive and well-managed. Whether it’s a weekend family outing or a birthday lunch, this place checks all the boxes for comfortable Desi dining.

Final Thoughts: Ranking Is Personal — And That’s Okay
When it comes to Desi breakfast in Stockholm, taste is personal. What impressed me may not impress you and vice versa. That’s the beauty of food. It’s emotional, cultural and deeply individual.
This blog isn’t about declaring a single winner forever. Rankings go up and down and they should.
Restaurants evolve, chefs change, menus improve and experiences vary from day to day.
What matters most is that we now have these options.
A decade ago, Desi nashta was a dream — today, it’s a weekend tradition.
