Hello everyone, greetings to all today. Today I want to show you a recipe that's not very different, nor something unknown, but I do want to share how I prepare this traditional food. It's not difficult to make, but a few tips are always helpful. Arepas are such a typical Venezuelan food that we Venezuelans basically eat them at various meals. Besides being breakfast for many of us, in its different versions, it continues to be our daily food. It's normal to eat arepas for breakfast and dinner, and in my opinion, arepas go with everything. Even if you make a very thin arepa, let it toast well, cut it into small pieces, and add milk, for many, it's a delicacy. Just as it's part of a whole tradition passed down from generation to generation, along the way, even the way of preparing arepas has changed. Today, I want to show you my way of preparing arepas. You can take notes if you like any of the types.

Ingredientes/Ingredients

- Agua
- Sal al gusto
- Queso paisa

- One cup of corn flour
- Water
- Salt to taste
- Paisa cheese
- Mavesa butter
Preparación/Preparation
Paso 1/Step 1

This arepa is the breakfast version, so they're not very big. In a bowl, place a small cup of pre-cooked corn flour (the kind used for pre-cooked corn flour), a pinch of salt, and then, when you add the water, you'll see what happens. Since the flour is pre-cooked, sometimes people only add enough water to make the dough soft, but the dough actually needs more water because the flour absorbs it. Sometimes you knead it and the dough is soft, but after a minute it gets hard. Well, that happens because it didn't have enough water. So knead the dough well and let it rest for a moment to see if it's still hard enough to add more water.
Paso 2/Step 2

Taking a moment to check the dough, I simply added more water and kneaded it more to ensure the moisture was well incorporated. Then I began shaping the arepa. I took a portion of the dough, formed a small ball, and then, using the palms of my hands, shaped it into the characteristic arepa form, similar to a cracker. Before doing this, I wet my hands with water to make shaping easier.
Paso 3/Step 3

I put the arepas on a griddle, which was nice and hot, before placing them on it. I also lightly oiled the surface of the griddle with a paper towel; the important thing is that it's very hot. Then I put my mom's arepa, mine, and a small arepa for the cats, because they also eat their daily arepa. The cooking time isn't that long; I just let them cook until they're golden brown on both sides and develop a crispy crust.
Paso 4/Step 4

Now to fill the arepas. I used Mavesa butter, my favorite brand. I added butter and covered the arepa so the butter would melt completely, and then I added grated queso paisa. And that's it! This delicious breakfast is ready.

And that's how these arepas turned out! They were delicious. My mom wasn't very hungry, but she ended up eating the whole arepa. So, tell me what you thought, and also let me know in the comments how you make arepas and what filling you like to eat them with. Thanks to everyone for visiting this post.
