Back to the title for a minute .... So what did this guy 👨 think of those Five Guys 🍔🍟

This guy being me, those Five Guys being an American burger joint that lets you eat peanuts or monkey nuts and throw the shells on the floor!

My review from when I visited on March 6th 2025!

Five Guys in Fort Kinnaird retail park Edinburgh Scotland

This is an American burger and fries chain that I had never eaten at before. They are a chain and seem to have locations all over the place.

However, I had to inspect and review this particular location. Read on to see what I found!

How it started..

Arlington, Virginia, 1986. Jerry and Janie Murrell gave their five sons a choice, ‘Start a business or go to college?” The business route won and the family opened the first Five Guys – named after the five brothers.

So that is how they came to be. Source their website as is the screenshot below...

I opened the door and was immediately met with a pile of paper sacks...

... as well as lot of slogans adorning the tiled walls.

The red and white actually was quite colourful and refreshing.

I was quite surprised I liked the colour combination seeing that it is the colours of Aberdeen football club, not a set of fans that I am particularly enamoured with.

The bags were potatoes.

The counter was close to the door, so I ordered my food and had a wee wander.

Yes you do get a choice of 15 toppings to choose from, at no extra cost. I kept it simple and chose jalapeños mayo and grilled onions.

I believe it is meant to look like a 50s diner.

You could even get free peanuts in the shell. We call them monkey nuts and you cud even thrown the empty shells on the floor!

Awesome selection of drinks

I got a soft drink and was gobsmacked to see the choices that they had.

To say I almost squealed in delight when I saw they had Schweppes Cloudly Lemonade Raspberry flavour was an understatement.

I love raspberries and I never knew Schweppes had this flavour!

An unlimited cup of that did me just fine!

I took a tray of peanuts

and sat at my table

Everything is cooked to order, so I did not mind waiting.

And then it came in a paper bag ...

The receipt says Cajun and that was to indicate I had asked for Cajun fries. Two patties denotes I got 2 patties in my sandwich, I think that was the defacto standard.

I unpacked it all, the manager had put a couple of tubs of hot sauce in the bag as well. I do like the spicy things in life.

... but wait a minute, there was more in the bag still!

They make a big deal about having another scoop of fries in your bag. And I swear there was more fries in the bag than in the cup!

The fries were tasty, I do love skins on potatoes and even at home I will wash the dirt of a potato rather than peel it!

They were good, but for me maybe there was too much salt on them.

The silver foil kept the burger hot and it was piping hot when I unwrapped it!

A little bit of everything

Verdict

I was pleasantly surprised!

The food was piping hot and the service was extremely fast not too mention the two members of staff were really friendly.

The burger had two meaty patties, not processed crap. It really was tasty.

The fries were cooked to perfection and the sauces were great too.

The drink was awesome and took me back to my childhood!

The peanuts were a novelty that were fun and welcome.

All in all I would recommend Five Guys, this guy really enjoy his Five Guys experience!
