Ordering Food In
Sometimes it's just impossible to cook and we want to order food from the local food app. Now most of these options in there are the fast food chains and those are not the ones we are ordering in because that's not the type of food we're looking for.
What am I looking for then? Well, preferably something where you don't only receive meat and fries or rice but also some veggies. This is already where it gets hard, there are very few restaurants that serve veggies or offer portions of veggies as it's simply just an upgraded snack bar called tapas bar. I kid you not, it's shocking how often we bumped into the issue that we got served a plate of meat and fries and that's it.
Those that are good, I value a lot!
The very few options there are in the app, I value that much that I often order in a way so that we know that it's food for two meals. Not just today but also tomorrow. It will only need a few tweaks the next day to make it a whole meal again and this way, the ordering in saves us loads of time but also doesn't cost much more than when we'd have to prep it ourselves. I will share with you my favourite one that ticks the boxes today.
Mexican food!
There's a Mexican restaurant which has several dishes with slow cooked meat on the menu. This goes from Iberian pork to beef and there's also a grilled chicken version on top of a few others. By now, we tried them all and two stand out. What I love most about these dishes are the fact that they serve a solid portion of meat on top of grilled veggies.
Grilled chicken
Slow cooked beef, so tender!
It's all well-balanced and because we add our own sides to the meal, we can eat royally from this with 3 people for two days. The first day we also have their fries, but they aren't suitable to serve on day two so these are the bonus on the first day.
The dishes
With every meal, you have two sides, it depends on what you order which combination you get it can be 2 sauces, guacamole and sometimes it's a bit of onion with parsley and tomato (sorry forgot how they call that). If you only fill the tacos (which are included too) with the stuff they deliver as sides, you have a very empty taco and I like my tacos filled.
Homemade side with tomatoes, parsley, red onion and lemon juice
Grilled paprika
Before I order, which I usually do in the afternoon shift, I start prepping whatever sides we have, sometimes I add cucumber as well. Whenever it arrives, we eat what we want to eat today and save the rest for tomorrow. Sometimes it means that we tweak the ingredients of the tacos a bit but usually, I make sure to order extra guacamole as theirs is great.
Great meal!
Let's see how delicious that looks... I personally love the grilled chicken most but the beef dish is also so tender that it's hard not to love..
Cheese sauce for the fries
No leftovers from this restaurant..
It's been a while since we ordered here and often when I think about doing so, I check their opening hours to find out they're closed that day. Whenever I have some food that needs to be consumed soon or food for the next day, I wouldn't order here because it's really food for two days. I know when these leftovers are in the fridge, we will not be able to let that go to waste, it's too nice!
Saving time and effort
You could say ordering in is more expensive but in this case, I don't have a grill and slow cooking meat will cost a lot of gas (we have gas bottles here) so for us to have this delivered ready to eat without having to put the effort in is worth it because we have a solid meal and only put in a bit of effort for the side dishes.
One day I hope we have a place to slow cook our own meat, I would not mind eating this a bit more often, it really compliments the taste of the meat if you let it cook slowly.
Do you slow cook your food yourself when you ever eat it? Or do you prefer ordering that in as well?
