I'm craving.. what's it called again?
I already mentioned that my birthday this year was a nice one. Nothing special but we were all relaxed and took the time to go out for lunch as well as dinner and of course, had cake after school finished. Nothing was expected from me, no prepping any food or thinking about which groceries to buy that day, just fun stuff. Now let me share with you the first part which I didn't share yet as it was actually quite a funny one and it involves food, again, yes. We love food!
In Budapest, I learned about eggs Benedict, and I found this perfect place with the cutest ambiance where they served them so whenever I was in the old neighbourhood we lived in, I took my daughter to have breakfast there. My boyfriend didn't fancy it because his stomach would always get upset from eggs there. Not even joking, not one egg that didn't make him either go sick or be in pain. This changed when we moved back to Spain, for some funny reason (or not so funny, I don't know, just stating the facts, lol) not one egg here makes him sick or starts to upset his stomach to the point where he's in pain. And they also taste much better here, another upside!
When it was my birthday, the question was not if we'd have breakfast or lunch (depending on business with work) but more where. I mean, we've visited most places, every one has their up and downsides and you can eat a decent breakfast at many places without breaking the bank. As it was my birthday, we were thinking maybe let's go somewhere a tiny bit more special so it feels more birthday-ish. Here it comes, he said "I'm thinking I want some eggs Benedict!" Uhm, pardon, what did you say? I was thinking I didn't hear it correctly but he really said it.
Just one place serves them in our town, at least, as far as I've seen on all the menus so far and yes, it's quite possible that there are more places which we didn't visit yet but this one was convenient as it was opened, had a table and we know they serve good food. They are a little expensive, sadly but we took that for granted.
I told you it's been very windy over at our coast!
Brunch reservations only!
I knew I forgot something about that note in my head where I remembered them having eggs Benedict and other fancier stuff than the usual. We found out as soon as we sat down there that it was served during special brunch with reservations only. Alright, well, next time gadget! Today we eat something else, I surely wasn't going to let it ruin my happy mood.
Only tapas or to share, the waitress told us. My boyfriend had a beer, I had a water, I mean it was only noon or so and I just like to drink water year round anyway.. We checked the menu and I decided I'd want salmon after all, even if it wasn't with eggs, and my boyfriend went for the tuna. We actually thought we were ordering a regular toast like you normally order for breakfast.
Tapas it is
We both didn't realize we were ordering from the tapa part of the menu, that's what you get with such an overwhelming menu where there's literally no spot left without colour or letters. We totally missed it.

Although they tasted fabulous, they also coast 4,50 euro each and my Dutch mind goes like 4,50 euros, that can buy me about 100 grams of salmon in the supermarket, if I add a bit more I have a very delicious French baguette with seeds as well as some cream cheese. I will just leave the seaweed for what it is and eat the rest at home, lol. Dutchies going to Dutch, lol!
Let's go!
My boyfriend paid the bill, agreed to quickly run into the supermarket before going to the bakery and picking up the little one from school. You already know what we had for cakes but I can show you my not so good looking, but oh so yummy tasting salmon lunch at home afterwards:
This bread is to die for, even though I try to eat a lot less bread since a few months (because honestly, I LOVE it) whenever I eat bread, it's this darker bread filled with nuts and seeds and it just makes every bite so much more tasteful. I added a layer of Philadelphia cream cheese with herbs to it and then royally topped it off with smoked salmon. Pepper and a bit of salt, incredibly simple but so good!
Do you like smoked salmon? I remember it was so dirt cheap back in 2016 when we moved to Spain the first place, we bought it at Aldi, eating it out of hand. When we returned, prices have probably doubled (at least), which makes us eat this a lot less.
Anyway, that's all for today. Wishing you a great week ahead!
