Gurr is a special tradition in Punjab, Although Punjab is separated into two parts now, East Punjab (India) and West Punjab (Pakistan), but both have common traditions, culture and foods.

Yes, It's one of the major crop of this region. In Pakistan, Punjab and Sindh provinces are the major producers of Sugar Cane respectively.
