"Lead Me Home" is a short documentary that addresses the issue of homeless people, or as they are more commonly called, the homeless.
Although it is a hard documentary to watch because reality is harsh, I believe it is a topic that needs to be highlighted as it is a growing phenomenon, not only in third-world countries.
Currently, for countless reasons, there are people living on the streets or, with a bit of luck, in their cars or shelters. Many of them, despite our assumptions, do have jobs, but they can't afford to pay rent, or their credit history is not very good, and even if they have the money, no one rents to them.
The USA is the focus of the documentary, but this is happening in many countries, whether due to causes such as illegal immigration, addiction problems, mental health issues, or discrimination, among many others.
The big question is, how do civilized societies allow such situations? The military budget increases exponentially, public officials' salaries as well, there's even money to explore space 🛰️, but solutions are not found to help vulnerable human beings.
Human misery is infinite, but that doesn't mean we should be silent observers. As taxpayers, we should be able to decide how our governments will spend the income they obtain from our work.
In my country, this problem exists, but it is almost always due to addictions. However, reaching the point where a worker cannot pay rent and has to live on the streets has fortunately not been surpassed... yet...
"Enseñame el camino a casa" es un documental breve que aborda la problemática de las personas en situación de calle, o como le dicen más comúnmente, sin hogar.
Si bien es un documental duro de ver, porque la realidad es dura, creo que es un tema que debe ser visibilizado porque es un fenómeno en aumento, y no solo en países del tercer mundo.
Actualmente, debido a infinidad de motivos, existen personas viviendo en las calles o con un poco de suerte, en sus automóviles o en albergues. Muchas de ellas, a pesar de nuestras suposiciones, sí tienen trabajo, pero no les alcanza para pagar un alquiler, o bien su historial crediticio no es muy bueno, y aunque tengan el dinero, nadie les arrienda.
EEUU es el foco del documental, pero esto está pasando en muchos países, ya sea por causas tales como la inmigración ilegal, problemas de adicciones, problemas de salud mental o discriminación, entre tantos otros.
La gran pregunta es, cómo las sociedades civilizadas permiten situaciones como éstas? El presupuesto armamentista aumenta exponencialmente, los salarios de funcionarios públicos también, hasta hay dinero para explorar el espacio 🛰️ pero no se encuentran soluciones para ayudar a seres humanos vulnerables.
Las miserias humanas son infinitas, pero no por eso debemos ser observadores silenciosos, como ciudadanos que pagamos impuestos deberíamos poder decidir en qué gastarán nuestros gobiernos los ingresos que obtienen de nuestro trabajo.
En mi país existe esta problemática, pero casi siempre es a causa de las adicciones, pero llegar al punto en que un trabajador no pueda pagar una renta y deba vivir en las calles, por suerte no ha sido rebasado... aún...
