Nature has given us a variety of fruits and all. But wait, why is it called "dragonfruit"? The color doesn't depict dragon, lol.
Going by the color and your description, I believe the fruit would be tasty.

The fruit is soft on the outside with a leathery feel to it, but it has layers of leather-like "scales" like a dragon's scales. It's a fascinating look! 😮 Here is a pic of the fruit from Wikipedia:
