RE: Jamaican Patties

in Ladies of Hive7 days ago (edited)

Hey @thekittygirl

I smiled when I saw this!
I haven't had a Jamaican Patty in ages, but in my high school days, patties were my lunchtime snack.
Traditionally, it's beef patties, then there was beef with cheese, called Cheese Patties. However, now you have chicken, curry, shrimp, and vegetable (callaloo, similar to spinach) patties that are common.

Would you believe there was an outlet in a mall in the Philippines that sold a variety of Jamaican patties? Hubby and I always made a stop there on our business trips to Cebu City.

The Jamaican patties are a remnant of the British Cornish pasties. However, I find Greggs Steak Bake more similar to Jamaican patties because of its thinner crust.

I hope one day you'll get to eat an authentic Jamaican 'Juici' Beef Patty. There's a rival, Tastee Patties, a company that the older generation prefers for its buttery, flaky crust. I love them both, but I'm more accustomed to the Juicy Beef brand, which is nationwide. Tastee is mainly in the capital of Kingston:)))

Have a lovely weekend!
