If I should describe my eating habits in one word, I would say “mediocre.” I used to think I had bad eating habits, but I can't say I do. There are a lot of factors that influence my eating habits. For example, when I'm at home (my parents’ house), my eating habits are pretty good. However, when I live alone, I can lie on my bed all day, starving because I'm too lazy to cook or to get food.
Naturally, I'm not a big eater. Most of the time, I tend to eat twice daily, plus in-between snacks. I'm also not a big fan of cooking, so I don't eat much because I hate going through the stress of cooking. Aside from that, it's always overwhelming for me to decide what to eat or cook. To help with my indecisiveness, I usually make simple foods, especially for breakfast, and also have meal preps that would make it easier for me to cook and eat well.
However, when I am in the mood to cook and eat, I love trying out new recipes. It's therapeutic and a form of self-care. Though I don't have a self-care recipe in terms of food, I love to make smoothies or any other liquid, like tea or beverages, to relax myself. I love liquid foods and drinks, especially when served cold; they are soothing to the soul. Nevertheless, I would say my self-care recipe is a smoothie. For my self-care smoothie, I use bananas, avocados, oats, and peanut butter, but sometimes I just blend whatever fruits I have in the fridge.
Self-care can also mean satisfying your cravings. Cravings are something that happens every time, so I need to filter my cravings, which, in other words, means I try to avoid unhealthy food cravings. Most times, especially on sunny and stressful days, I crave cold sodas or carbonated drinks, which are unhealthy, so I try as much as possible to suppress my cravings in those times. If they are healthy cravings, I tend to make them myself if I can, but if it is something I can't make, I would get it, provided it is affordable and accessible.
In conclusion, I'm working on improving my not-so-good eating habits and overcoming laziness in cooking to meet my body goal this year. My goal is to add more weight, and I know my current eating habits can't take me there.
