We’re constantly told to work harder, chase more, build a side hustle and never stop. But when did resting become laziness?

Sometimes, being busy doesn’t mean being productive.

Are we building successful lives or simply exhausting ourselves trying to prove we’re successful? is “hustle culture” becoming toxic?

Sort:

Rest is important too and being busy does not always mean being productive

Very important and it's getting rampant seeing people resting only when the body breaks down and refuses to work anymore

Exactly. Rest should be part of the routine, not something we do only when our body gives up

Yeahhh not as a choice. Thanks for that input

This hustle culture is everywhere these days and I think it becomes toxic when resting starts making us feel guilty. There’s a point where working harder stops producing better results and someone is just running on exhaustion

At that point, it's like still driving a vehicle whose radiator has no water anymore

Definitely, it will overheat

That's exactly how our body is when we keep using it when it's already exhausted 😞
It's the way I didn't really think about this topic pointing at my forehead before writing about it

And nose times, the exhaustion always leads to what people can't bounce back from after so much accumulation

Hmmm we just have to be careful and mindful of decisions we take that affect our health. Seriously speaking

Yes ooo. That is very very important

I’ve also noticed that being constantly busy can become a way of feeling productive without actually moving forward cos sometimes the smartest thing we can do is stop, breathe, recover
Don't suffocate yourself

Yeahh I get that. Especially when we have a routine of what to do so we feel like it's still productive as usual and it's no longer that.
Do you think the guilt feeling while resting or break is actually subconscious or comes based on what we have on our desk to sort

It comes based on how we have programmed our minds. If you always want to get things done at once and you rest in-between. The guilt will come like "why are you resting when you still have a lot to do

Hmmmm that's so true and I can actually testify to that. So when it's a case of you always finding time to rest no matter what, the guilt feeling won't come?

From time, I don't give it a space so it doesn't

Hmm that's nice. I'm trying to work on that habit too. Rest when the body gives the signal, it doesn't count me as being wasting time being idle

Rest when you body need it now so the rest won't be forced later. May we not fall sick

Success shouldn’t be about who can exhaust themselves the most. If you have to destroy your peace and health to maintain the life you’re building, what exactly are you winning

Vanity o cos what's success without good health or life. It's just so bad how we don't pause until we burn out.

At times, for me, having a nap during the day without being an on-site worker seems like I could use that time to sort something else

That is good.. you can work but don't push yourself to exceed your elastic limit and break like egg or glass that fell

😂 that illustration is scary. No remedy

😂😂😂 perfect way to put it

Omoohhh 😂 I gat be like thick and strong plank o so that when it fall, I can always carry it back

This is so timely. Just yesterday, I heard a lady say she can't be found sleeping during the day. She sees it as being comfortable when she should be making money. She sounded so serious that I began to see sense in what she was saying.

Yeah I do say it too until I realize that it doesn't really make sense when I actually know I have the independence to take the break when my body requires it. That was relevant to me when I was an employee and had to be in office. So using my break to take a nap looks odd

I can understand, I also felt that way most of the times I worked under people. It feels wrong, especially when others are busy working. 😅

Even I have been guilty of this some time ago, I use to think resting for too long or even just sitting around doing nothing is me being an enemy to my success. Until I realized I do more and better when I rest enough and get back to work.

Exactly 💯 we become productive when we give what belongs to Caeser to Caesar but unfortunately we act like robots

Lol for real o, we forget we are humans.

The hustle culture is really becoming toxic but only to those who have failed to see the importance of rest in becoming more effective. It's great to hustle but it would be a sad one to have success in a bad health.

Ehh very sad one indeed. Most people are learning that in a bad way and at a bad time. If only they had an idea earlier

I want to believe more people will get the idea sooner before it's too late.
