I've seen movies where we colonize and mine the moon and then it explodes. One would think that would be a cautionary tale. But no. Instead we say, "Hold my beer" and proceed to do all manner of things anyway. Ah well. One things for sure, life on Planet Earth is never boring.
The moon is quite big... for us to reach its core its still quite an impossible thing.
I suspect the only way to "blow it up" (not quite blow up, but probably make it not possible to visit) is if we start building nuclear reactors under the moon's crust and then for some reason, they blow up. Over the surface, if they blow up is not a big deal, because most of the radiation will just vanish into space.
The movie that comes to mind is The Time Traveler with Guy Pearce. In 2037 the Moon colonists have a mining accident and things do not go well.
The Time Machine ? I think I haven't watched that one yet. At least I don't recall...
