A lot of people want to get married, but some are beginning to question whether marriage is actually necessary for a happy life. Do you think marriage is something everyone should eventually experience, or can someone live a completely fulfilling life without it?

Sort:

Marriage to me is a legal agreement, not the same as love. I think marriage isn’t necessary even when you have a life partner, unless it will simplify some legal issues (taxes, inheritance etc) or make having kids easier in your society

I like the distinction between love and the legal institution of marriage. But if the legal benefits were completely removed, do you think most people would still choose marriage?

Depends on the culture but I’m sure it would decline everywhere as it is anyway some places. It depends on the conversations around it and how religious that society is

That is to decide by the couple. Also the country's laws.

Another way to look at that. But beyond the legal side, do you think marriage itself adds enough value to justify the commitment?

Also, the age and how many years successfully together.

Hmmm
Age and time. I like that

You can be exception if you want to
You don't want to die alone

“You don’t want to die alone”😂😂😂😂 is a serious reason to marry o. But do you think fear of loneliness is actually a good reason to choose a life partner?

I don't know about you but I'm doing pretty well after getting married.
It's been over 11 years now.
So yeah, from my experience, you should.

That's good, and congratulations on your married life.
I'll consider the advice. Thank you

After you've picked colour code for wedding already

Black and red 🌚

you're most welcome
have a good day

I think this should be a personal decision and not based on what the society believes or say. As per the society, every person especially lady must get married and as soon as you're old enough to be up to 30 and you're not married yet, you're tagged irresponsible

I agree that the pressure is ridiculous, especially when people start treating age like a deadline. Do you think people would make better marriage decisions if society stopped rushing them?

Yes I feel like there will be a huge reduction in wrong choice of marriage

True! Because the rush is the issue for most. It's a very big problem in our culture and society today

Marriage doesn't guarantee a happy life. AT ALL!
It depends on you knowing and realizing if it works for you or not. Marriage shouldn't be forced but based on intentions which is why many marriages falls out nowadays

Exactly. Marriage can give you companionship, but it can also expose problems that were easier to ignore while dating. Do you think people genuinely understand what they’re committing to before getting married?

That's the most easiest question to answer cos it's a NO. Most people don't understand and they just wanted to be part of those people who hold parties and have wedding hashtag and once that is done, eyes get opened

Absolutely! Because thier friend is married, they also want to rush and marry....

I think a fulfilling life is possible with or without marriage

Same here. Marriage can be part of a fulfilling life, but it shouldn't be the definition of one. What do you think makes life fulfilling outside marriage?

For me, having purpose, meaningful experiences, and doing what makes us genuinely happy.

Either married or not, we should be happy and marriage shouldn't be the basis for us to live happily

Marriage should add to someone's happiness, not become the condition for having it. But do you think being happily married is different from simply being happy?

Yes of course. You can be happily married but still lack self happiness and you can also be happy but not happily married.

Hmmm! This one is deep 😂
But how can you be happy and not happily married cos it seems it doesn't follow?

I believe people can live a completely fulfilling life without marriage, it just depends on individual decision to be happy in marriage or outside marriage.

Deff💯💯marriage can be part of someone’s happiness, but it shouldn’t be the price of admission. Do you think people sometimes confuse being single with being incomplete?

Not sometimes, most people confuse being single as being incomplete. Our society sees it as that, only few are able to live beyond those expectations and find true happiness that doesn't depend on another person to be felt.

One of the things I've learned recently is, a lot of Marriage that ended quickly are made up of people who thought marriage will complete them, who believed that marriage will make them happy. I learned that marriage is only one way to be happy, there are many more ways.

If someone expects marriage to fix their loneliness or unhappiness, they’re putting a huge responsibility on another person. Do you think two unhappy people can actually build a happy marriage?

It will take a whole lot for such a marriage to work and that is each of them finding their happiness then coming together to make it strong.

I can choose to be happy regardless of who is trying to make my happy, I can also be sad regardless of how much effort another puts into making me happy. It's all choice, marriage isn't a ticket to happiness... A good marriage with intentional partners could though.

I like the way you put that. A partner can contribute to your happiness, but they can’t permanently carry it for you but do you think people realize this before marriage or usually learn it the hard way?

Sadly, a lot in the past learned it the hard way and it's inside a marriage. Nowadays, I think more people learn it earlier and that's why we have more people not choosing marriage first but their happiness (being single).
