Work with me here...

Upon this Rock, I will build my church. Rock = Christ. Rock = God throughout the entire bible. Don't take my word for it, do a search for yourself.

You claim the rock (petros, small stone) is what Christ builds his church on, but then a few verses later, Christ tells Peter that Satan is in him and he needs to repent.

So which is it...Rock = Christ which the church is built on. Or fallen man?

Sort:

Man has always been a fallen creature, meaning due to original sin we will never be perfect until we become saints thru union with Christ.

This scenario where Jesus said He will build the Church on St. Peter as the rock and also the verse where He gave the keys to the Kingdom is why we have a Pope. Even if one commits a sin like Peter did, God can forgive when they ask forgiveness and repent. It was Jesus who chose him so why do people question/reject it? If we can't accept what Jesus instituted then something's wrong somewhere.

Also, the answer to your questions are all over the internet. Just look for those from reputable Catholic sources and you're on your way!

But He didn't, that's the point. The entire Catholic church is built on poor exegesis of that verse. Rock = God in the entire bible. the Greek word used by Christ when he addressed Peter is petros, which is not Rock but small stone. The Rock is Christ.

There is no doubt Jesus is the rejected cornerstone. And yet that same cornerstone set up a Church on a rock of His own choosing. If anyone contradicts Christ's own words and if people think they know better than the Catholic Church He instituted then I don't think they should be called Christian, but that's just me. Lol.

Always enjoy these back and forths. :)

I think you are crazy. You think I am crazy lol

I know right? 😆 This is how the devil works. Always keeping separate what should have been one in Christ.

it’s supposed to be like this. the bible literally says there will be division.

but God will judge the heart and He winks at ignorance. He’s worthy to be praised :)

Yes indeed but the division is between those who don't know God and reject Him too vs. those who follow Him. Jesus' call is for unity of His flock.

amen.

come out of her my people!!!

her being the ‘holy mother church’ ;)

...if people think they know better than the Catholic Church He instituted then I don't think they should be called Christian, but that's just me. Lol.

This is an odd and audacious statement to make. Why do you think so, if you may be kind enough to clarify, please?

Anyone who claims to know more than the Catholic Church is boasting because nobody can know everything about Catholicism. We've got so many information from the Lord that normally one lifetime won't even be enough for a person to learn everything.

What's the basis for your audacious claim? Is there somewhere in the Bible that can point us to that? If there is, I'm open to learn. What you're inferring is that the Catholic Church can never be wrong. So even when we see scripturally that it is wrong, we can't “know better” or say a thing because Catholicism has the final answer. I don't think that's an objective truth. It's a subjective claim.

It is not audacious when you realize the truth. As I always say, ignorance of Catholicism is not bliss. Find out for yourself and later on you'll say the same thing. Plenty of online resources to learn from, just make sure it's from a reputable Catholic source.

It's so audacious sister. This isn't coming from one who's “ignorant” of Catholicism, I tell you. Well, you're here, you can make me understand it. And with scriptural references. The Bible is the authority we should esteem the highest. Isn't that so?

And it's not about knowing everything about Catholicism, which isn't God by the way, but it's about where it could wrong and can be rebuked and reproved from the scriptures. I'm not saying Catholicism is bad and just wrong. No.

Just like the Bible isn't God but hey Prots treat it like God isn't outside of it at all. Better to pray then study the history of the early church first.

The Bible is treated as the logos, the word of God. Not God himself. But can your words be separated from you? No. So is God's word. Anyone who treats anything as God other than God himself, be it another human, some consecrations or even the Bible, they're wrong and it's called rituals.

Also did you not realize that you just answered the question on why St. Catherine of Siena said what she said?

"a few verses later, Christ tells Peter that Satan is in him and he needs to repent."

That is exacly what she means.

yeah i’m not bowing to any man. and i’m most definitely not bowing to satan.

Oh but we all sin right? Do you not? So when we sin, we will also be rebuked the same by Jesus if we were Peter. So what's your point?

theres sin.

and then there’s atrocities.

the catholic church is famous for the latter.

Hey, we're on St. Peter, don't bring in the Catholic Church yet. 😂 So you say Peter did something atrocious by sinning that's why Jesus called him Satan, now what? Can he not be forgiven by the same God especially after he repented and declared his love for Him 3x?

lol fair point.

ok but my point is that even before Christ called him satan, proper study of the greek shows us that Jesus is saying upon Himself the church will be built.

it was never to be built on peter.

Ah that's where scholars are always debating. But the Catholic Church is clear on it. End of story for me. 😆

and i get that. i truly do.

and i go by the bible.

peter said ‘we ought to obey God rather than man’

lol
see what i did there?
