Nature is crazy when it comes to the use of geometry. This vaguely reminds me of a geodesic dome. It's a large sphere made up of spheres around tiny spheres (seeds).

Are you familiar with Sacred Geometry? The pattern here is the flower of life
I'm only familiar with it in passing but looks like an interesting way of abstracting and understanding these natural patterns.
