It looks ridiculous, but that's how it works. It's just not perceivable when looking at ppl without any eye issue. People often learn about it when trying to i.e. aim a gun. One eye is "secondary" and looks from an angle, and only the "primary" eye looks dead-straight-on.

So we find it much easier to aim well with the 'primary' eye rather than the other, which we find to be harder to align and focus. And the image we "see" mostly comes from the primary eye. But when primary eye is closed/covered/obscured - secondary eye immediately takes over.
