"What a man can do, a woman can do better." ~ unknown. I've seen this quote many places. Many people, mostly ladies, talk about gender equality. What's your take on this? Do you think there should be gender equality? Do you think women can take on manly jobs like sailing, oil etc

Sort:

I support gender equality. it shouldn't be about competition, it should be more about capability.
Both gender has their unique strength.
In some certain fields you will see some women outperform men. It shouldn't be about gender but about individual.

You've said it all. Everybody have their unique strength, and that should be respected.

Yeah

We the women can do anything as better as men and there are many examples everyday.

This is factual.. women are also as strong and capable as men.

Some who wants to survive they can do any kind of job, it doesn't depend on their gender.

I like your stance. It all depends on the zeal of survival. If someone wants to survive, they would do what needs to be done and they wouldn't depend on gender.

Sure, why not.

Definitely!
I mean why should there be inequality in the first place? A fancy term for regarding a gender as less to the other 😑.

You know, during mass service today (yesterday), the reverend father while narrating the story of Abraham, specifically on the part of having to sacrifice Isaac to God, he pointed that it would have been an easier decision to make if it were to be a girl child, specifically for an African parent which is painfully true... and that just had me shaking my head.

True.. Africans, mostly, Igbos don't really regard the importance of female children. Their mindset is that - they would train the female child for another man's family to enjoy.

Whereas their male child would marry a female to have kids with and continue the family name. Being a traditional man and looking at it from the customs and traditions of where I'm from, I think the concept is substantiated, but one thing I don't agree with

One thing I don't agree with is that they treat females as "less" because they think a female child would not bring glory, honour to the family and continue the family's name. I think everyone should be treated fairly and equally no matter where they are.

Speak of fair treatment, have you ever heard of "Woman and big nyash advantage?" It's easier for a woman (with or without big nyash) to get something whereas it's very difficult for a man to get the same thing.

Lol 😂.... First time coming across that term, though I won't doubt the effectiveness of that in certain situations 🤦🏼‍♀️.

It's quite effective and I know people that get goodies because of it. 😂

Very interesting 😅

Indeed, everyone should. Same regard, recognition and respect ought to enjoyed by both genders.
That a female's children doesn't bear her family's name doesn't blur out the fact that they are yet, her parents' grandchildren.

True.. I agree with you

👍🏼🥲

I heard that a lot too but in dramas sha, that a woman's education ends in the kitchen. A poor mindset, I must say.

I hate that mindset and I don't support it. Women are more capable than we can imagine

No doubt!

This topic is a very sensitive one... Honestly.
I would say both genders should be respected and valued, and on taking jobs, I see no reason why a lady should take up such jobs as long as she's qualified and able too.

I agree with your stance. Both genders should be treated equally given their capability to take up a job is there.

Exactly sir

Factually, there's nothing a man can do that some women can't and vice versa. Of course, this doesn't apply to biological functions.

Secondly, asking if there should be gender equality is actually weird as that's supposed to be a basic right. Well, I guess my stance is clear.🙂

Errrrmmmmmm... A woman can't impregnate someone, and a man can't carry a child for 9 months 🌚🌚🌚

Edit: I just read the first line and dropped this comment.. I didn't see where you said - "this doesn't apply to biological factors."

Anyways, I grab your stance... However, many people don't think there should be gender equality. Quick question - when you get married, do you think you and your husband should share the responsibility equally? Like on a 50-50 basis?

For example, you cook, he washes plates. He brings 5k and you bring 5k to complete the money for a 10k responsibility. When an intruder enters the house, you'll carry gun while your husband carry gun (without nobody hiding in each others back), to confront the intruder together?

Or for example, in a sinking ship, instead of evacuating women and children first, you evacuate a mixture of men, women and children while leaving the other strong women to face the sinking ship? Think about it.....

Look at the meme.... Do you think women are strong enough to do this kind of job? Lemme no generalized it... Do you think you can do this kind of job? What about mining?

Personally, I love and respect women a lot. I don't think women's place are in the kitchen neither. However, I disagree with the fact that what a man can do, a woman can do better.

And for these questions, if I were to answer, especially on the 50/50 one, a male wouldn't have a single valid argument to counter my response. I mean, these are normal Internet talking points that have been passed for years and now tired. I'm equally tired.

Happy Monday!☺️

You're doing good ✨

Any educated person who thinks there shouldn't be gender equality is a dangerous person and I have no business engaging them.

Also, these instances you gave have absolutely nothing to do with gender equality and it's because people still don't understand what that term means.🫠

You're doing well.

Anyone can do anything, it's just the mindset that makes it look as though it's impossible. The only impossible fact about the two gender i know is that a woman can't pregnant a man. They all are perfect in their ways.

True.. they are perfect in their own ways. Each person is very unique

Yeah.

Both gender should be respected equally.
We balance each other out in so many ways.

True. Both genders should be respected, as they balance each other by their diverse societal roles.

Yes your right.
