It was clean if you are asking it. The hazardous part, I agree, but depends on the user a bit :D
The hygienic question was a bit more of a joke, I would hope that it would be clean if it was getting stuck into food :D My youngest likes to sometimes eat meat off knives because it makes him feel medieval or something x_x
