Ladybugs (in UK ladybirds) are actually a family of bugs with 6000 different species! The name comes from Mother Mary (hence in German "Marienkäfer").

In Dutch they are called Lieveheersbeestjes.
Where 'lieve heer' is a reference to God.
And in Hebrew, "parat moshe rebeynu", which means "Cow of our rabbi Moses".
It's interesting to see how the names can be so different in another languages, haha!
In Brazil, we call it Joaninha. 😅
According to my research:
Joaninha is a loving diminutive of the name "Joana", which has Hebrew origins, derived from Yôchânâh, meaning "God is gracious".
