I have always loved Iranian cinema.. the movies are so thought provoking and set with such simple overtones complimenting the hostile political environment of the country, they seem to be a form of protest on their own, subdued yet rebellious.

I wish, I could agree less. Iranian cinema is indeed one of the finest among all.
If you prefer watching something light hearted I would recommend “Where is the friend’s house” or “Crimson Gold” for a more serious introduction
