Yes. Lake Superior is like a small Ocean …. Huge 28 ’ waves some days
The largest officially recorded waves on Lake Superior reached a staggering 28.8 feet (8.8 meters) in height. These record-breaking waves were documented on October 24, 2017, by data buoys near Granite Island and Munising, Michigan.
This is a case where someone made a mistake, calling something a lake when it's not really a lake by its nature and mood :)
