Whiplash Taxi Co is a 3D Driving Game on the fantasy console PICO-8. The game is lets you drive through a big city and deliver people to the places they want to go. Whiplash Taxi features two modes. Taxi Mode, and Racing Mode. I recorded my playthough of the two modes in this video.
While I like the big city to drive through in Whiplash Taxi Co. I felt like the game could use more variety in the environment. Maybe adding another level or two. The Racing Mode offers various courses, but all of them are set in the same city, and look similar.
The driving mechanics felt hard to control. Mybe I suck at driving games but the movement was too fluid for me. But when I managed to get in the flow (see the final two minutes of the video) I enjoyed driving the Car.
I loved that the game tells you where you are in the city at the top of the screen. I wouldn't recongnize the hospital if I didn't see "Hospital" written in the game's interface.
PICO-8 is a Fantasy Console designed to create, share and play small retro-inspired games. Games made for PICO-8 are constrained in aethistics, code and size to encourage creativity. PICO-8 comes with a built-in code editor, graphics, and sound tools. Games are distributed in image files called Cartridges. In this series of videos, I discover great games made on this Fantasy Console, letting you discover these games with me.
