Celebrating our 16th-year of marriage
I told my husband that I come to realise marriage is not for the easily-give-up albeit to give up and to walk away from marriage may be easy in some circumstances if there are no children involved. When we see each other daily, and when we know a person inside out, we literally know all the beauty in our spouses and also all the monster part of our spouses. I always remind myself that as much as I notice his imperfections, I am not perfect either. To get a spouse who can bear with all your beauty and imperfection, I count that as blessing. So we told each other "let's strive to get better each year."
Anniversary Lunch
We went to our favourite spot to eat because we were craving some Baba Nyonya food. I had told my husband earlier that I just wanted a simple eating-out together, no flowers and presents needed. Food for the soul will work the best. Let's!!!
Lima Pulo : Baba Can Cook
Location: 50, Jalan Doraisamy, Chow Kit, 50300 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Whenever I come here, I couldn't help but to take photos of the place. So many traditional items and some items which I could recall having when I was young. It was a time to reminisce memories as well. This restaurant was highly recommended and rewarded few time Michelin.
When we arrived, the whole place was empty because the restaurant had allocated the inside section for an event. Outside was full house, so we were slightly disappointed but suddenly a miracle happened. One of the workers asked us whether was it just two of us? We said yes. And she led us into the restaurant to sit at one corner, a small table of two. Yay. We had the restaurant all to ourselves for a short time before the event crowd arrived. What a special anniversary privilege!
Food we ordered
I wanted to save some money so I chose the set lunch which came with rice, egg, vegetables and a protein of your choice. Somehow I missed my Mum's curry, which was also similar to my Grandmother's curry, the Penang baba type go gulai, so I ordered the set lunch with chicken curry. It came with a bowl of 4 pieces of chicken curry and potatoes, to me it was a generous amount, I could even share with husband.
My husband missed his stingray's (we call it pari) assam curry so he went for lunch set Pari Assam. This one came with soft fresh ladies finger and some tomatoes.
My husband felt he wanted to do something special for our anniversary lunch, and said let's have some faith to order more. He asked what else was I craving. I said the 'sambal' brinjal as well as the water spinach Nyonya soup.
Both was perfectly cooked and were so delicious. I super love the water spinach soup which was cooked with evaporated milk and their chilli paste, loaded with sweet potatoes. Yums!!!
As for drinks and dessert, we ordered iced coffee and Gula Sago. We were thoroughly satisfied with our Baba Nyonya meal. We also came to realise perhaps his Mum's side from Penang and my Dad's side from Penang has some Baba Nyonya heritage because my Dad's side of men will wear 'sarung', a piece of cloth wrap around the waist as their 'pants' and my Grandmother would wear 'baju kebaya' the Nyonya style whenever there was family photo taken. So maybe both my husband and I have some Baba Nyonya DNA. Lol...
Later on, the event crowd arrived and the whole place was packed and noisy. So, it was time for us to settle the bill and leave the place.
The Campus
After our lunch, we decided to check out a local small mall which was previously an International School. The big building was bought over and being renovated into a mall-like setting yet still maintaining the history of the campus.
We got to sit down in the supermarket called Q'ra, ordered a Mocha while just hang around to chit chat. Husband also bought a 'kuih ketayap', a Malay sweet snack made of flour skin and wrapped with sugar dessicated coconut. Yums! We bought sourdough as well for ourselves and for in-laws.
That was how we spent our anniversary lunch date. Giving thanks of our marriage, we had braced through the dark valley and had climbed out of to see the light of hope. Now unto more years of journeying all the ups and downs in life. And to smell each other's fart till death do us apart. Haha!
