WOW how did Friday come back so quickly? Fridays are such special days for office folks. The relaxation and peace that Fridays bring, you probably don’t get on any other day. They remind us of the weekend. But for me, Fridays have become quite dangerous lately because, as I’ve mentioned before, every Friday, we office people go out for lunch, and it really bothers me because it costs so much per person. When Friday lunches first started, it used to cost us around 250-300 rupees per person, but now, you can’t get away with spending less than 1000.

Take last Friday, for example. I wasn’t prepared at all, but they kept bothering me about it all morning, driving me crazy. To avoid all this, I went to the boss’s room after Friday prayers to talk about some work and stayed there for a long time. But even then, they came and dragged me out to lunch. I couldn’t say much in front of the boss, so I ended up going with them. Because of the rain, we didn’t go far and ended up at a place called Red Apple, which I find very expensive.

This was my second time at Red Apple. The first time, I went because it was someone else’s treat, but this time we went on the American system (everyone pays for themselves). As I looked at the menu, I started feeling really stressed about what to order. But then my mood changed quickly. I thought, since we’re already here, why worry about the money? Just order freely. We ordered two tikka deals, two broast roll deals, and one chowmein.

Our order took a long time to arrive, but the server was really nice. He came and apologized, explaining that it was taking time because they had many orders. I appreciated that—having customer-centric staff really increases a restaurant’s value. One of our colleagues wanted a different soft drink that wasn’t available there, so he even went outside to get it for her. I was really impressed with the service, but the only problem was that even though there were air conditioners, they weren’t working. That was a huge issue.

The food was really good, though. The tikka was very tasty, juicy, and tender all the way through. The broast was also flavorful, and even the fries that came with it were good, which isn’t common in most restaurants. The chowmein, which one of our colleagues ordered, was too saucy for her to finish, so I did. It was very saucy, but that was because our colleague specifically asked for extra sauce. Overall, the food was tasty, and it cost 900 rupees per person. I wasn’t completely satisfied with spending that much money, but what can you do? When you work with others, you have to put up with this sort of thing. Now, I just have to see what happens this Friday—will I be able to avoid lunch with them or not?
