The Secret To Fertile Raised Beds Made With Organic Material

in HiveGarden2 days ago

Before we think of shortcut to creating instant soil fertility with chemicals, why not consider something organic and environmentally friendly?

I'll share my experience creating raised beds using organic growing media.

At the end of February, I shared how I make raised beds. You can read about it HERE. Now, I'll also show you two raised beds I've created that have successfully produced healthy organic vegetables.

At first, this area looked empty. I was still in the process of filling the raised beds with weeds, chopped banana stems, and compost from kitchen waste.

Two weeks later, I started sowing spinach seeds for a quick-harvesting vegetable before planting pumpkins in these raised beds.

Sure enough, in just three weeks, the spinach was ready to harvest. Using organic methods.

Look at this lush green spinach! Meanwhile, I also have a bush of water spinach that I planted in an old gallon jug.

The key secret to organic raised beds is the process of adding layers of growing media. Starting with weeds, then chopped banana stems, and compost. Then, on top, I added a loose planting medium consisting of a mixture of soil, burnt rice husks, and finely fermented goat manure.

This method also conserves a lot of land. Organic materials will create a fertile layer beneath the soil that slowly releases nutrients to the topsoil.

We can also add brown organic materials like dry leaves or grass, used cardboard, and dry twigs. From this organic material, our planting medium will increase, and we won't have to worry about running out of soil.

If you don't have banana stems, you can simply use green leaves, like weeds, to fill the raised bed.

I'm satisfied with the good harvest. Before the caterpillars and grasshoppers attack, I have to harvest the spinach immediately, even though it's less than a month after sowing. The spinach leaves and stems are already large. ❤️

I use fertilizer made from fermented goat manure, which has turned into soil-like granules. Only once, when the spinach is 10 days old.

Well, I don't use any pesticides at all. I focus on strong-smelling plants like basil. I also plant lots of bright flowers to attract pests.

Well, we can grow healthy organic vegetables in our own yards. Happy gardening!

It's great, like you're growing something out of nothing!!

I'm going to try grow spinach again this year. I bought some seeds last year after I saw you grow yours so easily, but of course mine was a total failure. Let's see if I have better luck this year

Every area has different climate. But still, spinach is easy to grow if you have good seeds. In the past, I got bad seeds and no single seed germinate.
The spinach seed so small in size. But they need to covered with something to create dark area and wet condition.

When seedling prosess, I covered the beds for 3 days, then opened the cover after the seed became germinated.

I hope you will make it this year. 😊

How wonderful! Your plants look so beautiful—God bless them. Here at home, I've tried planting some tomatoes and chili peppers, but the heat kills them. I think you have a magic touch. Best regards

Tomato and chili super tricky. But they can be strong after 1 month seedling. Here up to 35 celcius and my chili still good

An interesting and useful tip.The vegetables that you grow look very nice.
Best regards

Thanks 😊☕

Wao! You have really done so well with these you have done. It requires a whole lot of energy and dedication to do these and i know it also requires proper learning to do these and i am happy for the results you atr getting. Good one and nice work. I am impressed with your results.

Dedication is a must 😊 be consistent

Hello, dear friend @anggreklestari, good afternoon.

What great advice! There's nothing healthier or better than making organic compost; the results are fantastic.

It's wonderful to see the progress of your vegetables. Congratulations on the great, healthy work you're doing!

Have a beautiful afternoon!

Thank you my friend, I hope you can start gardening with your family

Nice idea to use organic materials. It is good for the soil and safe. Your plants grow fast. Spinach in 3 weeks is great.

Banana stem is great nutrition 😊 my chili plants in the past also have abudance of fruits with same method 😊

I didn't know that spinach can grow that fast. 😊 Your veggie garden is thriving 👌

Kebunnya bikin iri banget mbak.

Semangat bertani!
