Hello Asean Hive Community
I was happy a couple days ago because I felt like I had recovered almost 100%. I had some digestion issue, from food poisoning then evolved to mild GERD. As the result I had a very tight control on my diets. Let say this in more common way, I had to eat bitter tasteless and disgusting food lol.
So when I felt I had recovered, it brought a very joyful feeling because I knew I could start eating food that were delicious. Food which were branded as dangerous or too much for my digestion, now I could eat them again lol.

So I went to several places ordering junk food comfort food... and in this post it is about Martabak. I would not talk in detail about martabak, I have posted it before here, but I am too lazy to find my post about it.
As you can see on my picture above, there is a price list there. Biasa means common, then special which you already know what it means, Istimewa means special too, and the last one is super. Then you can see 2 - 3 - 4 5 telor, which telor stands for egg.
So the price list is based on how many eggs you want in your Martabak. They used duck eggs, as you can see those eggs aren't chicken's. Savory Martabak should use duck eggs, they give more groovy fatty taste than chicken. However there are people who prefer chicken eggs due to health issue. I see nothing wrong with that, but this is a wrong place to order martabak if they have that issue.

There, they started to fry my Martabak. Savory Martabak is fried, not baked. Basically it is a pancake with many egg and butters. However savory Martabak is healthier than the sweet one. The savory Martabak is actuall from Yaman or Arab, it is Mutabbaq or Murtabak. The sweet Martabak is from Chinese pancake called as Lok Ho Pan.

So I do not understand how in the past the history ran, from Hok Lo Pan and Murtabak, ended up as Martabak that most people know from Indonesia. Both are adopted foreign cuisine, with some adaptation and modification they become widely accepted in Indonesia.
Anyway I ordered the special 3 eggs one, it cost me 45.000 rupiah or around USD $2.7. It was considered cheap for a Martabak. As I have said that, Martabak is not meant for poor people, they are comfort food that only middle class and above could eat that. Lower class usually order Martabak only in some special occasion, such as birthday or getting some promotion in their job.

So this was my Martabak. Each Martabak even they have the same name and use duck eggs too, the taste differ from each stall or each brand. They have their own mix for the meat, egg, and seasoning. So buying Martabak from various outlets from time to time is worth to try, because it will give you different experience.
Ok that's my food story today. See you next time and take care yourself!
