Hello Asean Hive Community
How are you today? I hope everyone are ok. I am back here again with my foodie post. A few weeks ago @arveno asked if there are places in Jakarta, the Ex Capital City of Indonesia, that still sell food below one dollar US.
My answer is simple, there are many still doing it. So today I am sharing you guys one of the place. It is not a famous one, just a simple hut that sell a chicken soup.
The place is empty now, there used to be crowded here. People are leaving this place because most of the constructions nearby have finished. Usually construction workers who ate here because of the cheap price.
I come at 2 pm, so it is of course empty. Lunch time is over. However even during lunch time, they are not as crowded as before anymore.
I am ordering a chicken soup, and they need to reheat the soup first. I guess they are not expecting to get any customer after the lunch break is over. It is quite sad to see them demotivated like that. They are not lazy at all, sadly what happen there might make people who come there for first time might think that they are lazy ass.
The reason why many construction workers eat there because they let people take their own rice. So it doesn't matter how much or how small your rice is, they will charge you the same. So for people who want to eat as many rice as they can, this is the right place.
My portion is reasonable one, and if I compare to other people there, usually my portion is almost half of the others. So they are happy seeing people like me coming there, some nerdy city boy who eat less and pay the same lol.
Ok this is my lunch now. A warm white rice, with a bowl of chicken soup and a warm plain tea. it costs me 0.95 USD for this set. I come with a colleague and he has the same menu with me except his rice is around 2,5 times of my portion.
As a verified stingy person, visiting and eating in this place giving me a satisfaction of being a winner in saving up by eating cheap food. However it is not the cheap price that made me coming to this place regularly in the past.
Their taste is actually quite good, not great nor very good, but I can say at least they are above average. The soup is very fresh, I can see they use fresh tomato too. I do not get sick from eating in this place. That's why earlier I say they are not lazy, they care a lot about how to prepare the food, cleaning the place, and managing all ingredients and only use the fresh one.
Not a great place, not a great food, however it is excellent based on how much you spend there. Worth every pennies you pay for. Too bad they are losing their customers due to a change in demography.
Thank you for stopping by, have a good day and God Bless You all.
Thank you for coming and reading my post. I live in Jakarta, Ex-Capital City of Indonesia. I used to live by making money online, that's why I like being here, on HIVE, and in #PIMP - (Paper In My Pocket) community.
