Hello Asean Hive Community
I am not an online driver, but during my work days, I often drive for a long time. Sometime in a day, I have to travel to three to four places and overall I can drive up to 150-200km regularly.
I do not use driver because hiring a driver is too expensive for me. I can not use grab car or go car because they are more expensive than driving the car myself. It's part of the jobs anyway, so like it or not I have learnt to adapt to a long driving journey
Sometime I do not have proper time to stop driving to have some lunch or dinner. I have to catch up the right time for a meeting or to get on certain place on certain time, and speeding is not a solution for that. I have learnt that if I do not eat for days, I might get sick and that will bring me more troubles.
So I have to manage my meal better... and that means I have to eat during my drive...
Often I buy ready to go package which usually a drink (coffee or tea) and a bread. But having a bread for your lunch is not soo ASEAN at all LoL. We need to eat rice, although I can go without rice for days, but still as an Asean and Asian, rice is something mandatory we need to eat regularly.
I usually buy some traditional food on street stall. I do not buy them randomly, I usually plan getting something which have proper nutrition and on a certain stall that is not too shabby and look very clean and hygienic. For me, getting a cheap convenience meal is not an excuse to buy dirty food.
The most frequent food I buy for my drive is fried tofu. There are many reasons why I like to buy them. First they are cheap, they are not something that fancy and expensive. Second they are warm, sold right away after getting fried. One of the most dangerous things when we buy street food is that the food was rotten and recooked again. This case is rarely found on fried tofu, because we can detect it right away. Third reason, simple, I like tofu.
They are two kind of tofu I like to buy. The first one is Tahu Isi, or filled tofu. it is a fried tofu with some stir-fried vegetable put inside it. The second one is what I share the picture above, it is tahu sumedang. Tahu Sumedang is a fried tofu famous in Sumedang City in West Java Region. It is a tofu which has a hollow space inside and their skin is very crispy.
In general I like Tahu Isi better, but for the car meal, I prefer Tahu Sumedang. This crispy tofu is easier to be detected by taste whether it is fresh or not. Personally I do not trust stir-fried vegetables made by some unknown street food stall, so that is part why I often avoid Tahu Isi for the on-the-go food.
Now The Rice...
I said above that ASEAN people need to eat rice right? So here is my rice... it is a Ba-Cang. In chinese it is called Zong-Zi too, and it is a food part of Chinese Cuisine.
The original Bacang is made from Glutinous (sticky) Rice and the word BA is coming from BAK, which means Pork. So the original Bacang is a Chinese rice ball which has a minced meat inside.
Bacang is very popular in very popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and other Southeast Asian countries. They can be found with some local twists. In Indonesia, most Bacang is pork and lard free, so they are halal. We make Bacang as halal food because most of Indonesian are Moeslim... We replace the pork with chicken or beef, depends on the preference.
Most of people here do not like sticky rice too, so they prefer to have their Bacang made from regular rice. I like sticky rice but for Bacang... I prefer the regular rice too, maybe because I am used to eat regular rice Bacang since my childhood.
Especially for Bacang, I do not recommend you to eat this one while driving. It has triangular or pyramid shape, it is hard to be hold and eaten while driving. Eating bacang while driving can cause it to fall apart or spill, you will end up making a mess everywhere in your car. Maybe it is safer to eat Sticky rice Bacang in this case, but still... better you do what I do, eat bacang in parking area after the drive.
Ok that's my Road Food story, have a good day everyone!
Thank you for coming and reading my post. I live in Jakarta, Ex-Capital City of Indonesia. I used to live by making money online, that's why I like being here, on HIVE, and in #PIMP - (Paper In My Pocket) community.
