- Hello everyone 🤗 , how are you all? I hope everyone is doing well. Today, I made a snack for everyone in the family...Steamed Taro Balls. It’s a snack that leaves my feeling satisfied but not overly full, as it’s made with taro and flour. I added protein from red beans and also included Job's tears to give it a varied texture. It’s served with a dipping sauce I made myself, which has a rich sweet and sour flavor, with a hint of spiciness from red Jin Da chilies. Below is the recipe and steps I’d like to share with you.
INGREDIENTS
Ingredients For the Taro Balls
- Grated taro, 250g
- Tapioca starch, 50g
- Rice flour, 50g
- Glutinous rice flour, 30g
- Arrowroot flour, 20g
- Water, 250 ml
- Cooked red beans and Job's tears 100g
- Coarsely chopped garlic, 1/2 tablespoon
- Granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon
- Seasoning powder, 1 teaspoon
- Salt, 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil for frying, 3 tablespoons
Ingredients For the Simple Dipping Sauce
- Sweet dark soy sauce, 2 tablespoons
- Sugar, 1 tablespoon
- Light soy sauce, 1 tablespoon
- Vinegar, 1/2 tablespoon
- Sliced fresh red Jin Da chilies, 1/2 tablespoon
- A pinch of salt, 1/2 teaspoon
INSTRUCTIONS
For the Taro Balls
- Prepare a mixing bowl. Combine the rice flour, tapioca starch, glutinous rice flour, and Tacca leontopetaloides flour. Add the water and mix until a smooth, uniform batter is formed. Set this mixture aside.
- Prepare a pan over low heat. Add the vegetable oil and fry the chopped garlic until fragrant.
- Add the grated taro and stir-fry until it begins to soften. Add cooked red beans and Job's tears.
- Season with sugar, salt, ground black pepper, and seasoning powder. Stir-fry until everything is well combined.
- Pour in the flour and water mixture from step one.
- Continue to stir-fry until the flour is cooked and the mixture becomes thick and sticky. Turn off the heat. Let the mixture cool until warm to the touch, then shape it into round balls.
- Steam the balls over high heat for 25-30 minutes.
For the Simple Dipping Sauce
- I prepare a small pot. Add the sugar and vinegar. Place over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Let it boil for about 2 minutes. Add the sweet dark soy sauce and light soy sauce, stirring to combine. Reduce to low heat and simmer for another 3 minutes. Turn off the heat and add the sliced fresh red Jin Da chilies according to your preference. Stir well. Let the sauce cool before serving.
Serving
- Arrange the steamed taro balls on a serving plate. They are best enjoyed with a dipping sauce and fresh vegetables
- It is one of my favorite snacks. The dough has a soft, chewy texture from the perfect blend of multiple types of flour, combined with taro. The grains, such as red beans and Job's tears, add a rich, buttery flavor. It is served with a dipping sauce that is sour, salty, sweet, and slightly spicy. It is extremely delicious.
- So, what do you think of the menu I made today? Thank you to everyone who stopped by to read this. Thank you for all your comments and votes. See you next time!.... 😊 Bye~
