Today was one of those rare days when errands turned into bonding time. My son and I had our dental check-up and teeth cleaning scheduled, and instead of dreading it, we decided to make it a little adventure.
We started the day early, making sure to eat a light breakfast and brush our teeth properly — my son even reminded me, “Mama, baka makita ni doc 'yung natira kahapon!” 😅 That made me laugh and feel proud at the same time — he's really learning the value of good oral hygiene.
As we arrived at the clinic, the familiar minty scent and the sound of soft music playing in the background instantly set a calm mood. The staff greeted us warmly, and I could tell my son was a little nervous. But once the dentist called us in and started with friendly small talk, his tension eased.
First up was my son. The dentist patiently explained every tool and step before starting. He had a bit of a wide-eyed moment when he saw the scaler, but he sat like a champ the whole time. “Parang may naglilinis ng tiles sa ngipin ko,” he joked after, and we all laughed.
After his turn, the dental assistant smiled and said, “Good job!” before handing him a small token — a little Airplain toy! My son's eyes lit up and he held it tightly, smiling from ear to ear. He was so happy, and I could tell that simple gesture made his whole day.
Then it was my turn — a routine check and a thorough cleaning later, I felt like I had a brand-new smile. Nothing beats that fresh, clean feeling after a dental appointment.
Before leaving, we scheduled our next visit. Of course, we stopped for a quick treat afterward — chicken mcdo, rice, fries and sundae ice cream for him (no hard candies, promise!) and iced coffee for me.
Dental check-ups may not be the most exciting activity, but today reminded me that even simple moments like these can become special memories when shared with your child. 💙
