If you're planning to visit Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, I highly recommend staying near District 1. It’s a convenient area for tourists, with many popular spots for food and shopping within walking distance. You won’t need to spend much on Grab rides since most attractions are just a short stroll away.
LAX SHUSI KITCHEN IN HO CHI MIN , VIETNAM
One food spot I really suggest checking out is LAX Sushi Kitchen (or also called LAX Sushi House). It’s a bit hidden, but as you may know—hidden places often serve the best food.
At the entrance , you tought it was just a regular coffee stall . But i was wrong because that stall was different than the restaurant itself.
You have turn left , go inside at this small space and went up the stairs . Can you see the small sign that being place below the eyes level ? Yes , that was the hidden sign to went at this places.
The stair look there was nothing special inside , we almost went down back because it feel insecure to go the unknown without any sign of the restaurant.
But once you reach the third floor, you’ll find a small and quiet entrance to the restaurant.
Of course, it doesn’t lead you directly into the restaurant—instead, you arrive at the veranda first. The atmosphere already gives off a unique blend of Japanese and Vietnamese culture.
This is the view from the veranda, where you can also bring your food or drinks and enjoy the outdoor scenery while having your meal.
WELCOME TO LAX SHUSI KITCHEN
This is how it looks inside. They had just opened for the evening, so the air conditioning hadn’t fully cooled the place yet, but I still liked the cozy atmosphere. The restaurant was very clean and had a warm, homey vibe—probably because the owner himself was so friendly.
As the name suggests, the restaurant offers a fusion of Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine. The owner, who is also the chef, has years of experience working as a Japanese chef in Japan during his younger days.
The menu was displayed both on the wall and in the menu book.
The prices were quite average compared to other restaurants, and some dishes were even cheaper than usual.
I ordered the broken rice, and I highly recommend this dish—at least from this restaurant! The chicken was perfectly marinated and had a unique flavor compared to other broken rice dishes I’ve tried. I’m pretty sure it was smoked rather than just grilled, which gave it a delicious aroma and taste.
The chili sauce tasted just like the ones I love across Vietnam—spicy, flavorful, and addicting. What really stood out was the sweet and sour flavor—it’s different from what you’ll find in other countries, truly authentic Vietnamese taste. And don’t get me started on the egg cake! It seemed to be cooked with radish and minced meat, adding another layer of perfection to the whole meal.
My wife ordered the classic Vietnamese Pho. I don’t have much to say about it since Pho is pretty much available everywhere in Vietnam—but she really loved it. In fact, she even compared it to the Pho from other places we’ve tried, and said this one tasted way better. That alone tells you it’s worth a try!
The only thing she found a bit unusual was the amount of vegetables that came with the Pho—it’s just not her thing. In the end, I was the one who happily finished all the veggies, since I actually enjoy them!
For the drinks , she order coconut and i order the ice milk coffee. All together we spend VND 181,000 which was about USD 6.92 . It was awesome deal right.
I guess that’s all for today. If you ever visit Ho Chi Minh, don’t forget to check out this hidden gem of a restaurant! Thanks for stopping by, and see you in the next journey.
