Fuimos a nuestra heladería favorita, esa que tiene los colores alegres en la entrada y siempre huele a vainilla. Emiliano corrió directo al mostrador, con esa emoción que solo los niños tienen cuando ven tantos sabores juntos. Escogió uno de chicle azul, por supuesto, y terminó con la boca pintada como si fuera un dibujo animado. Yo pedí uno de coco con piña, que me encanta porque me recuerda a las vacaciones, y mi esposo se fue por su clásico: chocolate con almendras.
Nos sentamos afuera, en una banca bajo la sombra, y mientras comíamos, Emiliano empezó a contar historias inventadas sobre dinosaurios que comían helado. Mi esposo soltó una carcajada, y yo solo pensaba en lo afortunada que soy. El helado se derretía lento, pero el momento se sentía eterno. No había prisa, no había ruido, solo nosotros tres, compartiendo algo tan simple y tan bonito.
Y así, entre cucharadas dulces y risas sinceras, la tarde se nos fue. Pero el recuerdo se quedó, como el sabor del helado que no se olvida.
We went to our favorite ice cream shop, the one with the bright colors at the entrance and always smells like vanilla. Emiliano ran straight to the counter, with that excitement that only children get when they see so many flavors together. He chose a blue bubblegum, of course, and ended up with his mouth painted like a cartoon character. I ordered a coconut with pineapple, which I love because it reminds me of vacations, and my husband went for his classic: chocolate with almonds.
We sat outside on a shaded bench, and while we ate, Emiliano started telling made-up stories about dinosaurs that ate ice cream. My husband burst out laughing, and all I could think about was how lucky I am. The ice cream melted slowly, but the moment felt eternal. There was no rush, no noise, just the three of us, sharing something so simple and so beautiful.
And so, between sweet spoonfuls and heartfelt laughter, the afternoon slipped away. But the memory remained, like the taste of ice cream that is unforgettable.
