We’re getting closer to one of the biggest events on the island: National Day, which will take place on the 9th of August! Although it falls on a Saturday, I’m hopeful the holiday might be moved to Friday, giving us a long weekend, especially for those of us with full-time jobs, hehe. But even if it isn’t shifted, that’s okay too, since I might still have plenty to do over the holiday.
Sometimes, days just fly by without me even realizing it. The only signs that remind me something big is coming are the bazaars being set up all over the place. Just a few days ago, I saw a huge tent going up near the MRT station, which will soon be home to some food bazaars.

At one of the shopping malls, I also noticed unique food and snack stalls already in business. It caught my eye because that particular space is usually reserved for home appliances or various home décor. But with the holiday approaching, it has been transformed into stalls selling all kinds of interesting products.
I actually stopped by each stall to see what they were offering this year. There were the usual ones like Tupperware, kitchenware, and handicrafts that appear every year. It made me wonder what keeps these vendors coming back and how they manage to have such loyal customers. I say this because I’ve never been particularly interested in these kinds of things, and I’ve never felt the urge to buy them. Are there still people who collect or regularly use these items? I’m not entirely sure, but personally, I just don’t see much use for them, so I passed, haha.
The stalls that really caught my attention this year were the food stalls. I guess I’m weak when it comes to food. I just can’t resist stopping to grab a treat, LOL. Among all the options, the first one that looked appetizing to me was the coffee candy stall. That’s definitely a smart product to sell. Here in the city, anything coffee-related sells well because we just love our caffeine fix. Having it in candy form makes it super convenient to carry around.
Next were the tub cakes. As someone with a major sweet tooth, I had to grab one and give it a try. I love this style of serving and packaging because I don’t feel guilty about eating an entire cake. Since it’s a mini one, it feels just right.
And of course, one of my all-time favorites, the dumpling stall. The savory flavors were the perfect balance to the sweetness of the cakes, so I really enjoyed snacking. It might sound like I ate a lot, but the portions were quite small, so it felt light on the tummy. Best of all, no guilt at all. No issues!
Thanks for sticking around and reading my little update about the National Day vibes. It’s always fun seeing the place light up with good food and festive energy. Can’t wait to see what else pops up as the day gets closer!
