Sometimes it's hard deciding what to eat in paradise. Do I get bacon & eggs or a pastry & quiche for breakfast? How about sushi or a wagyu bacon cheeseburger for lunch? For dinner do I want A5 beef or a bowl of kakuni ramen? Sometimes I can't even decide and a decision just happens, like yesterday.
I went down to Shibuya to renew my Shibuya Sky annual pass. It was just after 1pm and I realized I wanted to eat lunch before I went up on the roof. Two of my favorite spots, Misakiko a kaiten sushi(revolving sushi), and The Great Burger Stand. Both were fighting for my attention. I really wanted the burger, but I wound up at the sushi place instead. Don't ask me how that happened.
Prices for sushi here have gone up about 20-30%. Which isn't bad at all considering fast food in California has doubled in the same time.
I ended up ordering several dishes of seared chutoro(medium fatty tuna), fries and salmon. Yes, fries. The fries at many sushi places are delicious. My last dish shocked me a bit though. I ordered salmon with onions and mayonnaise and this is what came out.
It was delicious, but took me a minute to figure out how to get a piece out of the onion & mayonnaise mountain.
After lunch headed over to Shibuya Sky. I renewed my Annual Passport for $75 which allows me to go to the roof anytime I want except for special events. A regular ticket is $25 and you have to wait in line or actually reserve the time in advance to go up because it is so crowded.
Yesterday was no exception. I would estimate 80% of the people were foreigners, many of them Chinese.
While the weather was nice, the closer we got to sunset clouds rolled in around Mt. Fuji and completely blocked out the sun. Just one more reason to have that annual passport. I can go back today, tomorrow or any other day to try to catch a beautiful sunset again.
After Sky, I went and did a bit of shopping. The stopped by Ottotto Brewery for a light dinner of beer & pizza! It was that or Taco Bell next door.
The pizza was delicious. Some fancy formage with honey. Can't remember exactly what it was and I'm not a fan of honey on pizza, but this one was done right. Just a dash of honey on each slice kept the sweetness to a minimum while adding dimension to the flavor. The beer was a normal, mild flavored hefeweizen which was a great pairing with the pizza.
While I may have taken in a lot of calories I climbed a lot of stairs and walked just under 10km.
Which leads me to breakfast. Since I walked so much yesterday my legs are a bit sore so I decided to give them a rest today and just go to my local grocery store, 2 doors down, for breakfast.
$6 for that. It would cost double in California.
And with that, thanks for reading!
