Bodrog Fest 2024

They say that the river Danube has its own Atlantis. A medieval city and the fortress of Bodrog sleeps forever in this river, close to Bački Monoštor (located in northern Serbia), a town I visited yesterday. A long time ago, the Danube took possession of the city with its power, it swallowed the fortress and everything that was ever constructed in Bodrog. That is a mystery but there are documents, maps and testimonies that even at the beginning of the seventeenth century, the highest roofs of Bodrog were visible sticking out of the water.

I didn't see anything in the Danube, so I can't confirm the truth of this legend. To be honest, I went to this town with another intention - I heard about a festival that could be interesting to visit. It takes place every year on the second weekend of August.

For me, it was the first time I had visited it, both the town and the festival. And for you? have you ever visited it? Don't worry if not; it is transmitted this way to you, through my blog. You don't even have to leave your room to see the food you can taste or buy some traditional items and souvenirs.

Unfortunately, I can't transmit the musical concerts held in the evening on Friday and Saturday on this stage as I went to a different place in the evening (Liberland village... that will be shared too if you are not bored already from all these happenings here around 😉)

Sorry, I am not telling the truth. I actually can bring one photo of a classical concert that was held in the church when we arrived here. It was a group of singers and a little chamber orchestra, performing medieval music. I was not dressed in a formal way to attend the concert (a shirt without sleeves and too short shorts I think is not the best outfit for being in a church) so I listened to it just from the entrance. The acoustic was beautiful anyway, so I heard perfectly well.

After the music, we strolled toward the street market. Apart from regular crafts, we saw a lot of street food stalls. You could purchase freshly fried fish, BBQ, sausages, goulash, fish and game stew. These dishes were prepared there, in this way:

You could have some sweets too.

I bought something that @erikah will recognise. I know it as kürtőskalács but not sure how to translate it to English. It is a dough baked on a stick and sprinkled with ground walnuts or hazelnuts.

Apart from the dishes you could consume already there, we had a nice offer of honey, wine or other food. I purchased honey and my son a heart-shaped cake, with a mirror in its middle.

Let's see the traditional street market with the crafts.

In this kind of festivals, the stalls are usually placed on the main road of the village or close to the church or town hall. Our technique is to see first one side of the market and then, while coming back the other side. Then we cover all the stalls and items that they sell.

My favourite objects that I saw yesterday were the clay pots to cook and the kitchen wooden boards. Those were really nice ones!

Wooden boards and other items made of wood:

Crochet bags and accessories, baskets, rugs, birdhouses, paintings, magnets, mugs, keyrings, pillows, and other souvenirs were not missing either. Just a few more photos, though there were many more stalls...

Our very first visit to this little town Bački Monoštor happened for this reason, to see the Bodrog Fest. As I said, I didn't see the Atlantis of Danube as my focus was on this event, however, I stayed a bit intrigued if Bodrog can be still found under the river.

Sort:

great little street market, Love those wooden chopping boards and the big sausages.

The wooden boards were great. A relative that came with us bought one but he said it is so nice that he will not use it for cutting or chopping anything on it hahaha

LOL,

That's a very interesting festival! So unexpected yet so pretty!
Thanks for posting in the community too :) Wish you a lovely week ahead!

Thank you for the space, @gabrielatravels. I hope it fits the community with its topic ;)

Absolutely!

I really wants to leave my room and taste that delicious food, but I also need a Visa and airplane ticket to get to Serbia, thats really too much!!!!! jajajajjj
We have similars church here...

If too expensive, then the "reading from the room" option has to be applied 😜

maybe a travel to Serbia next summer! jajjj

Maybe 📸

Liberland? As in...the crypto friendly country thingy?

This looks like a really nice place though and the food super yummie! Love summer travels!

Yep, the crypto friendly thingy. I went last year too one evening for a party, and yesterday, as part of this crypto event Floating Man there was a concert. It's super cool - in the middle of the forest, and there was also the president, Vít Jedlička. But wait, we are in a different post 😂 I will post about the evening event too these days :))

Are you going to Split, Hive Fest?

haha floating man sounded totally like a festival with boats, but it is all Liberland. Looking forward on the post about that as well!

Yeah Hive fest...it seems like it! All systems are go, didnt book anything as yet and waiting for the prices to head up for a bit hopefully to make it all a bit cheaper. What about you?

Husband will go, he booked accomodation and flights, but I can't go, so you will meet again Mr Mipiano instead of me 😂

Ahh booohhhh! Although mr piano is also good, we want the real you :D

😁

I will not leave my room.
Grapes... honey... Kürtőskalács (horn cake) ;) ... girl, you make me so hungry for sweet things.

Not leaving the room hahah - but the neighbour's dog will wait for his food if its owner doesn't come. Then you can blame me as the hive blog contract made you stay at home and be hungry for sweet things 😂

Try to pronounce "kürtőskalács" {good luck 😁}

After 3 or 4 glasses of wine, we'll give it a try. I'm confident I'll pronounce it correctly. 😁

A large bottle of crema de arroz is better than wine 🍶 😏

There is no discussion about that 😅, there never has been 😅. Crema entonces.

🍶

Can we have karaoke too? 😄

In this type of fairs, the customs and traditions of the people are appreciated. Excellent photos, friend.

It's good to preserve these transactions 😉

Wow, that is horn cake and I want one asap! That's the kind of festival I like so it's too bad I could not attend :)

Thank you, yes, horn cake, could not remember it's name and forgot to consult it through Wikipedia 🤦🏻‍♀️. Thanks 😊

It's too hot to think 😂

Every time I see photos of Serbia it makes me want to go there more ! And yes, please do post about Liberland - even though I think it's a crazy impractical and over-idealistic idea, I really want to see it succeed 😁

About Liberaland I posted something last year, and this time I went just for a party, a concert, as part of a crypto event Floating Man. It will come from it's music perspective 😁

I love everything! I'm not a vegetarian hahahaha I love everything I see! I love the wooden planks and the clay pots.... those hearts.... I want a wooden clock... I want everything! hahaha😂

The heart-shaped biscuits are popular here in these markets, but you can't buy them in other places just when there is a fair like this. It is a pity to eat it hahaha, so usually the one who receives it as a gift keeps it as a memory.

They are very beautiful, I would also keep them as a souvenir, a very sweet one!

Nice place and it looks like it's quite fun to be there.

Yes ✨

I definitely would have those fried fish, my favourite. I like festivals like this. 🩷😊

Wow!!!! Esto es una maravilla...todo, todo. Cada cosa mejor que la otra. Estoy fascinada con lo que has mostrado. Gracias por compartir. Una abrazo para todos.
