Yesterday was celebrated Mother's Day in Spain. I don't know how many other countries celebrated it yesterday, if it was celebrated in your country tell me in the comments.
Besides Mother's Day it was also my husband's birthday, so we wanted to do something different to celebrate both occasions.
For days my husband had wanted to eat Chinese food and although there are several Chinese restaurants in Vigo, one of our few international friends, who by the way is Chinese, recommended us a restaurant in his country called "La Manzana Roja".
Surely if you are from Vigo you must know it, apparently it is the most popular Chinese restaurant here.
When we arrived, it was already very crowded and there were few tables available, although we didn't make a reservation because we were told three days beforehand that it wasn't necessary, I think that if we had arrived an hour later we might have had to wait for a table to be vacated.
This was the first time we went to that place, our Chinese friend I mentioned above, had told us about a meat with bamboo. Yes, bamboo, the same stuff the lovely pandas eat, and we were curious to try it.
At first we thought it lacked flavor but then we understood that here in Spain they don't eat with much seasoning, for those who don't know, Chinese food especially the sauces are very spicy. And we know this because our friend has already invited us to eat several times and talks to us about the food in his country.
My husband would have loved it to have that spicy touch but for me it was great, the bamboo felt crunchy and for me it had a taste and texture similar to palm heart, it also had zetas that gave another texture to the dish. I think if you are open minded to new flavors, you might like it.
The pasta you see above with a fried egg on top, that was my dish, when they brought it to me I thought I wouldn't be able to eat it but I was amazed because I didn't leave a single noodle! 😅
My husband ordered Chinese rice, he has been a fan of Chinese rice since he was a kid, sometimes when we are in the mood we prepare it at home but it is never the same as the ones sold in restaurants!
One thing I didn't really like were the spring rolls, I'm used to thinner rolls, these ones they served us looked like empanadas, and the taste wasn't the same as I was used to, but for my husband that wasn't a problem he could handle both of them! 😄
In the end the bill was 28€, it did not seem very expensive since there were three dishes, 2 spring rolls, a glass of red wine and a beer, and the amount of food was enough.
I recommend the place, I liked what I ordered and my husband was delighted with the food, and judging by the amount of people that were there, I think many people from Vigo like it too. Surely next time we will come back to try something different.
When we were about to leave, the lady who took our order approached us and gave me a fabric flower. I thought it was a nice gesture for Mother's Day. 🌹
