Omo… sugar is a weakness for so many of us. It’s that one thing that we find everywhere and in everything, and for you to actively try to avoid it means you have to stay away from certain meals. Sugar is in nature, and it's also in the factories. It’s in sweet things, and even the ones that don’t taste sweet have loads of sugar in them.
And it’s not being helpful that today companies are willing to cut corners instead of making a quality product, they just produce rubbish. That’s why you can take ten cubes of sugar, and you still won’t taste it in your cup of tea. It could be that your taste has dulled because of too much sugar, but it could also be that you’re taking chaff instead of the real thing, and we don’t know the effect that could have on you. The production is what should be regulated.

Now, should the government regulate sugar? Sugar is highly dangerous, especially in the long run. There are so many side effects to it, while they may not expressly be life-threatening in the moment, they sure pose a long-term risk. Excessive intake of alcohol can lead to the drunk making stupid decisions that will lead to loss of life and property. That’s why sales and consumption are so regulated, and also why acts done while drunk are still very much punishable by law.
But then, with sugar, you’re still in control of your faculties. You’re in control of your immediate actions and also pose no danger to those around you, which is why it won’t be banned or regulated. Excessive sugar can destroy a person’s kidneys, lead to diabetes, and other major issues. These are issues that, if not handled well, will more than likely lead to death. That’s how bad it can be.

And for this, I believe that it should be regulated. And not just that, people should be sensitized and warned about the dangers of taking too much sugar. You can’t stop someone from buying bags of sugar, but as we do with cigarettes and alcoholic drinks, you can warn them of the dangers they stand to face by being carefree with it.
The good thing, though, is that many people are getting wiser now. We all know the effects that sugar has on our health, our fitness, and even on fertility. People are getting smarter and are taking steps to protect themselves. While they can’t totally avoid taking sugar, they can reduce it to the barest minimum that they can accept.
And even more importantly, sugar is pretty important. It provides glucose, which gives the body energy. If you don’t take sugar for an entire week, your body will feel it. So, we just have to be smart about all this. For me, the only time I buy soda is when I’m in traffic, and the heat is messing with me. I get tired and need a boost of strength, soda always comes through. If I don’t finish it on the road and I get home with some, I never really finish it.
This battle with sugar isn’t something the government will fight for us. It’s our health that’s in question, we have to do it ourselves. We have to conquer our hunger for sweet things.
