Hello everyone!
For this Creative Sunday, I’m excited to share one of my favorite homemade desserts—Lauki Ka Halwa. This is a delicious and healthy sweet treat that’s easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
Lauki, or bottle gourd, might not be everyone’s favorite vegetable, but when it’s transformed into a halwa, it becomes a delightful surprise! The process of cooking the lauki with milk, sugar, and ghee brings out its natural sweetness, making it a dish loved by both kids and adults alike.
What I love about Lauki Ka Halwa is its simplicity. It requires just a few basic ingredients, and in no time, you have a warm, comforting dessert ready to be enjoyed. Whether you’re serving it to guests or indulging yourself, this halwa never fails to impress.
Ingredients:
1 medium-sized lauki (bottle gourd)
1 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar (adjust according to taste)
2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
2 cardamom
1 teaspoon desiccated coconut
A handful of chopped nuts ( almonds, walnuts, dates, black raisins, melon seeds)
Food color
Step-by-Step Recipe
Preparing the Lauki
Start by washing the lauki thoroughly. Peel off the skin and grate it using a medium-sized grater.Once grated, squeeze the excess water out of the lauki.
Cooking the Lauki
Heat 2 tablespoon of ghee in a pan. Add 2 cardamom and then add the grated lauki and sauté it on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until it softens and releases its raw smell.
Pour in the milk and let it simmer. Add these nuts to the halwa and food color( You can use green color if you want; I had yellow color available).
Mix everything well.Cook the lauki in milk until the milk is absorbed completely. Stir occasionally to avoid burning.
Adding Sugar and Once the milk is absorbed, add sugar to the lauki. Stir well, and you’ll notice the mixture becoming a bit watery again.Continue to cook on medium heat until the sugar dissolves and the halwa thickens. This should take about 5-10 minutes.
Serving the Halwa:
Your lauki ka halwa is now ready to be served! You can enjoy it warm or cold, depending on your preference. It’s a perfect dessert after a hearty meal or a sweet treat to serve guests.
So, if you’re looking for a new dessert to try, give Lauki Ka Halwa a shot. Trust me, it’s a sweet and satisfying way to make use of this humble vegetable.
Thank you
