Hello everyone, welcome to another episode of Hive Learner's Creative Sunday Initiative with George Dee.
It's been a few weeks since I last participated in the initiative, and I am glad to be back with more delicious and healthy recipes for everyone. I made a snack for today's entry and hope you all love it.
Pie is one of the most common snacks around the world, and it comes with different fillings. Fish, beef, sausage, and others, but that's not all. I have tried different fillings, and one of them doesn't seem to be common, but it's great in many ways. It doesn't cost you much money to prepare, is very easy to prepare, and I can confidently say that it's healthier.
The potato and veggie filling for your pie is quite delicious but very underrated because it doesn't have fish, beef, or other popular demands in it. I have tried it a lot of times and never get tired of it because of the taste/health benefits.
What are the ingredients needed for this yummy pie?
Flour
Potatoes
Carrot & Spring Onion
Red pepper & onion
Egg & Milk
Salt & Seasoning
Groundnut oil
Butter
Milk & Sugar
Baking powder
Let's get into the preparation of this snack.
I started by processing some of the ingredients because they aren't ready for use.
I melted the butter to make it very easy for me to use.
I grated the carrot and onion.
I blended the pepper with a hand blender.
I chopped the spring onions in pieces.
I peeled the potatoes, boiled them with a little salt, and mashed them.
I broke the egg into a container and set everything aside.
I moved on to making my dough, and this looks like the biggest task, but it's simple. You can check my video to see how it's made.
- I turned some flour into a bowl.
- I added sugar, baking powder, egg, and milk.
- I mixed everything together with my hands first and added a small quantity of water.
- I continued mixing and switched to kneading after the flour had become firm.
- I added butter and continued kneading until my dough got a very smooth texture.
I moved on to making the potato and veggie filling for the pie.
- I turned the mashed potatoes into a container.
- I added the carrot, spring onions, pepper, onions, seasoning, and salt.
- I mixed them thoroughly in a container until everything blended well together.
Let's make our pie.
- I cut a small ball from the dough and flattened it with a rolling pin on a board.
- I put some of the potato and veggie mixture on a part of the dough and folded it.
- I used a cutter to trim the edge of the pie and used a fork to press the edge.
- That would give it a nice lock and as well seal the pie to prevent the filling from pouring since I will be baking the pie manually.
- I repeated the process for the other dough and filling.
- Finally, I heated my fry pan and added a little quantity of oil. This is deep fry; I just need the dough to get fried and okay for consumption.
- I placed the pie gently in the pan, two at a time, and allowed them to fry on low heat. The heat should be as low as possible.
- I flipped them repeatedly to ensure that the heat affects every part of the dough and my pie is ready.
If you have an oven, you can just place them inside to make things a lot faster.
The pie is soft, and the filling took me to another foodie's realm. I enjoyed every bit of the pie with my family and even wished there was more.
I hope you enjoy and love this recipe; feel free to share your thoughts about it.
