When Sweet Things Turn Bitter

in Hive Learners17 hours ago

Looking at most of the things I consume, there's a portion of sugar in it, even when those things says that they are "sugar-free", yet still have traces of sweetness in them. Look at the tea we have over here, that roadside puff puff, the pancakes, bread, soda drinks, and even some foods; we have sugar in it. I grew up with the mindset that I must always put sugar in some of the things that I eat, thinking that it was a big enjoyment and that those foods would not taste better without it.

Well, as time passed by, I became more aware of the bad side of too much sugar, that it can lead to or even cause diabetes, stomach pain at some point if taken in excess, HBP, or even fatigue at some point. I know someone who recently had diabetes because the doctor said she takes too much sugar. And now, I have gotten to realize why my mom usually warned me back then to reduce my sugar intake because I am a man. I guess you understand what she was trying to say.

It should not be a thing done by force, though, but deep inside me, I feel like sugar should be regulated just like how alcohol has been regulated in my state. Even though there is an age restriction on alcohol and some warnings. But with sugar, the color alone entices people and no warning at all. Just sweetness. A lot of people cannot do without drinking soft drinks and anything that contains sugar daily, but do they know the long-term implications? I will say not all are aware.

So, if some things are regulated, and more awareness is put towards it, I guess people will be more sensitised about the implications of drinking too much soft drinks and sugar intake. A lot of people are already addicted to those sugary things but if only they can be regulated and controlled which will save a lot of lives.

I am not saying it should be banned because how will I enjoy my vanilla or chocolate cake if such happens? And banning it means a lot of businesses putting joy in the faces of people who are greatly affected.

In everything we do in life, there should be balance to it, and it should not be abused. When I said sugar should be regulated, I meant that people should be aware of what sugar causes and what it add to our body. We should not be blind towards our health too.

Sugar is definitely needed for something and not everything and the sooner we all understand this, the better for our health and what we consume.

Some things are better discussed now because over here, doctors go on strike, and I even think they are still on strike since last year? And as it is now, it is better to prevent our body and ourselves from consuming something that the cure will be terrific than we expect. And I also think that the government should work on it too because if some rules are put in place by higher authority, people will tend to obey them.

Thank you for reading.

In my opinion, I believe sugar should be regulated, and not ban and that's because it's more natural and can be found in fruits and vegetables, so it's quite difficult to curb it, but a regulation can go a long way in improving lives.
