Dear Hive Friend and Hive Learner Members,

We humans are social and share our feelings with each other; we need someone to express our feelings. Mostly, we are attached to our family and share our feelings, thoughts, and ideas with family members and also receive their suggestions. The family is the first group with whom we share our happiness and sadness, and it's only family who stands with us when needed. But in today's world, we all miss this. We live in the same house but sometimes do not take care of each other, mostly because of technology itself. The mobile phone is one of the best inventions of our time; it's not just a medium of communication but also a source of information, entertainment, shopping, and much more. Along with all this, it is also a source of distraction and creates gaps within families. Many times it happens that all family members are sitting in the same room, and nobody bothers to talk to each other as all are busy with their mobile phones. This is the scenario in every house these days.

When I was a kid, we used to have dinner together. Here, together means me and my siblings. My mother prepared the food and served us, and because of work conditions, my father used to have dinner late. There was no dinner time when we all sat together and had discussions, but my siblings and I always had conversations during dinner about our day. That was a time when smartphones did not exist; only landlines were available. We used to spend time with my father, not during dinner but at other times.

When we had our baby and she was 2 years old, we decided not to use the phone much in front of us. It was a difficult decision as I mostly use my phone for my blockchain activity. I decided to use a laptop instead of a mobile phone, so it was a predefined time when I used the laptop for posting, commenting, and playing games on the beautiful web3 platform, Hive. My wife also set the phone aside until our kid fell asleep. The strategy worked well, and fortunately, our kid was away from the phone for most of the time. The most difficult time was during COVID-19 when all of us were locked inside homes, and we didn't have much activity to do.

Not using the phone during family time is a good decision, in my opinion, but we cannot avoid it completely. I mean, putting the phone in a locked box during family time is not what I like, but it should be a mutual understanding and should be followed by all that they should minimize the use to its largest extent. I follow the same; if I am attending any function of a near and dear one, I do not use the mobile much (mostly using it for receiving and making calls, no games or chat with online friends). Those functions are to enjoy and not to spend time on mobile.

Mobile phones in current times have become an essential part of our life, but using them with some sense is very important. It does not look good if we are visiting someone's home and instead of chatting with them, we are busy with our mobiles. No doubt, the mobile is there to facilitate and help us; they have great use cases in our day-to-day activities, but they should not be barriers in our lives.
