Hello everyone, back again for another creative sunday. Today, I will be sharing another tasty recipe of my mother. There are some recipes that my mother cooks which can never be forgotten and lose their place in our family and it doesn't matter how many new dishes we have discovered. Well, for me, spicy shrimp is one of those recipes. It's one of my favourite spicy food. My family loves spices and if you're a spice lover, then this will be the best recipe to learn today. Spicy shrimp is made with fresh shrimp and it's supposed to be too spicy.
My mother's spicy shrimp recipe is very easy, it doesn't need many complicated ingredients or special techniques. It can be cooked by anyone at home, it brings out the natural flavour of the shrimp by pairing it with onion paste and garlic and cumin mixed paste. It's a slow cooking process but it's one of the best, allowing every ingredient to develop its flavor while creating a thick, rich coating around the shrimp.
Today, I'm sharing this recipe exactly the way we have always cook it at home. The instructions will be clear. I hope it brings the same warmth and comfort to your table that it has brought to ours over the years. So, this a recipe for one person, which is 1:1.
Ingredients
Some fresh shrimp
1 tbsp garlic and cumin mixed paste
1 tbsp onion paste
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
Salt to taste
Soyabean oil (or any cooking oil)
Step 1: Prepare the Shrimp

The first step is simple but important. You should take the shrimp and clean it thoroughly, we are not going to marinate it but if you want to then mix them with turmeric powder and salt. Let them rest for about ten to fifteen minutes.
Step 2: Build the Flavorful Masala

Heat the soyabean oil until it becomes hot. Then carefully add the ingredients one by one. We won't be adding the shrimps now. At first you gotta add the ingredients to make it taste better.

Add the onion paste and cook it over medium heat.

After a few seconds add garlic and cumin mixed paste.

Add some salt as per taste

After that turmeric powder

Then add chilli powder

Blend it all together with the wooden spoon Fry them for only one minute continuously. The paste will begin turning a light golden color then red.
Step 3: Cook the shrimp

Add some water and place the shrimps and slowly into the pot, mix them completely with the reddish gravy to seal them so they remain juicy.

After several minutes, the raw smell will disappear. Now continue stirring until the mixture becomes aromatic. The curry will have its signature flavor in a while. Continue cooking and cover it with the head of the pot.
Step 4: Prepare the shrimp gravy
After 20 minutes gently stir it to see if the shrimp is cooked or still raw. Cook everything over low heat for about 5 to 7 minutes, if it's cooked the shrimp absorb every bit of the flavorful gravy. If the gravy starts looking too dry, and you don't like it dry then add a few tablespoons of hot water. We like it with a bit gravy so we have added some water. If you need light gravy then consistency should remain thick enough to coat the shrimp beautifully rather than becoming too watery.
Step 5: The Final Touch

Once the shrimp are perfectly cooked you can finish by garnishing with coriander leaves. But we are not adding any because it tastes good even without seasoning. Anyway, spicy shrimp is ready and looks delicious. While writing the post, my mouth is already watery.
Serving Suggestions

This spicy shrimp is best enjoyed hot with freshly steamed rice and we don't have it without the rice. But if you are able to take the spices then you can eat it without the rice. It's for the spicy lovers so try it at your own risk. The rich gravy and aromatic spices make every bite satisfying.
I hope this recipe becomes special in your home as it has always been in mine. This recipe has always been a favorite of mine. As you can see simple ingredients can be turned into something truly comforting. Every time it's prepared at home I eat with satisfaction. It reminds me that some of the best recipes are passed down through family.
