RE: Trains Churches and Swans on my Scottish morning walk

[I call it the church on the hill], Indeed, I could even see it from your distance image before reaching. It's a magnificent figure, I wonder how long it has stood.
About the D-day, I am still not getting a full glimpse, what's up?

Sort:

The Normandy landings were the landing operations and associated airborne operations on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it is the largest seaborne invasion in history. The operation began the liberation of France, and the rest of Western Europe, and laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front.

It was the start of victory for the Allies in WW2 and of course Germany and Japan surrendered next year in 1945.

So yesterday and today there many parades and celebrations in Normandy in France with soldiers who are still alive all in their 90s and 100s to honour their fallen comrades in arms.

The church now that is Abbotshall Church and was REbuilt in 1788, the original was built in 1650. It makes me feel young when I mention dates like that!

[It makes me feel young when I mention dates like that!] come on Mr Tengo! 1788 and 1650?, you ought to be with your ancestors, hahaha.

Thanks for both history breakdowns, you've really taught me a lot. I guess knowledge is a recipe when you stick around Mr Tengo. 😊
