#Wednesday Walk - In People's Park, Next to Moses Mabhida Stadium.

in Wednesday Walk4 months ago

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

the photos I want to share today were taken over two outings.

Last weekend we went for a family outing to celebrate Mother's Day. We decided to go to People's Park next to the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

I thought it would be a great opportunity to get some photos as well, seeing that I have never taken any photos of the stadium from this side.

This ended up in an interesting situation that still doesn't make sense to me...haha.

The People's Park is an awesome venue for going for a walk or taking the family for an outing while the kids can have fun in the play area.

It is completely fenced off with controlled access. The whole venue is also under constant security video camera surveillance...and I am happy to say this is working well...although I find one rule a bit strange.

I decided to go for a walk toward the stadium to take some photos of the stadium.

I barely took two photos when a security guy was standing next to me, asking me about my photos. He politely explained to me that it was against the rules to take photos inside the park with a camera and they noticed me with the camera via their video surveillance cameras.

I explained to him that I wasn't taking photos of any of the people in the park but I was taking photos of the stadium.

He had no problem with that but explained to me that I am welcome to take photos with my mobile phone wherever I want...but not with my camera, as that is against the rules.

The only explanation he could give me was that it was the rules... Now, unless someone can clear this up for me, I cannot understand how I can take as many photos as I want with a mobile phone, as long as I don't take them with my camera...

The whole conversation was in good spirits... I mean, the man was only doing his job. And in all honesty, he was doing a pretty good job, because he was fully aware of what was going on and fast to respond and take control of the situation. Yet, he was also friendly and curious, not aggressively approaching me. Firm and formal, yet polite. I was really impressed with the man.

But understanding the rule? Not quite...

With his blessing, I kept taking photos...but with my mobile phone...lol.

So, the rest of the photos for that day were taken with my mobile phone.

Getting up close to the stadium, I learned they would be hosting a soccer game shortly and the first guests started arriving.

Due to the upcoming game, I wasn't allowed to go any closer to get more photos and I decided I would return sometime during the week to get more photos.

I returned to the People's Park area where the rest of my family was. This is the view of the park coming back from the stadium.

For me, the clouds completed the picture.

I was fascinated by the beauty of this tree.

Just behind the tree, is the People's Park Cafe, providing a pleasant, friendly atmosphere to sit down with your family and enjoy a meal or something to drink.

I did return early Tuesday morning to take photos from up close of the stadium from this side. Shortly after that visit, we received news of a family crisis (my mother-in-law being hospitalized) in Johannesburg and we left for Johannesburg.

As I am writing this post, we are still in Johannesburg

If circumstances allow it, I will share the photos I took on Tuesday morning tomorrow.

But this is it for today folks.

Thank you for reading my post! I do appreciate it!

Strange rule that... might be something to do with Journalism?|

That guy won't know. It would be a rule made at the management level and then just filtered down.

I do agree, that is why I didn't bother to ask too many questions. He was very polite and I think he was actually doing his job very well and I complimented him about that. How many places have we been to, where security is non-existent?

Indeed. Or even places that are meant to have security but it is not really effective at all!

That's exactly what I'm talking about. Last week we had to go up to Johannesburg as my mother-in-law ended up in I.C.U. with heart failure. Coming from Durban we obviously arrived late in the evening but it was arranged that they would allow us to go in. As we arrived, I stopped right next to the security office at the gate. After making some noise, the guy came stumbling out of his little office, still on another planet after waking up...he ad no idea what was going on around him...
