I'M A FOODIE, CUT THE ACT! πŸ˜€

in The Real Talk β€’ 13 days ago

I think it's high time people stopped hiding behind the "I'm a foodie" label while they're out demolishing large portions of foods meant for an army. You can't have such big appetite and call yourself a foodie. How can? Who you wan confuse? πŸ™„

In fact, this is a call out to anyone claiming to be foodie when they're not to stop henceforth, else you'll hear from the "the foodies association" LOL. You're tarnishing the foodies' image and we won't take it "lying down." Oh, what am I even saying sef. Now I get it, we won't take it lightly again. Lol.

Like, I don't get how someone who says that they're a foodie can devour 5 big wraps of fufu with all the big chunks of proteins inside the soup, plates of party jellof rice and then top it up with bottles of various drinks. Still unsatiated, they'll eat plates of ugba with nkwobi, and other available treats. Ha! Foodies do not eat this way, only those with excessive appetite - gluttony. Yes, you heard me right.

Wait, are you looking at me with your eyes wide? You disagree? Okay, I'll enlighten you.

Being a foodie and gluttony aren't the same thing. Here's why;

Foodie

A foodie is someone who has a passion for food, enjoys exploring different cuisines, appreciates the art of cooking and might even experiment with cooking themselves.

Read it again, slowly this time.

Now Gluttony

Gluttony refers to excessive indulgence in food or drink, often to the point of overconsumption or waste.

You see the difference now?

Foodies eat with style, savoring small portions of dishes to fully grasp and appreciate the flavors. They focus more on experience, taste, and quality of foods while gluttony is about mindless overindulgence or "longer throat" in Naija pidgin parlance. Their focus is on quantity.

I understand we're all wired differently and our appetites can vary from person to person, that's fine. But I think it'd be nice to call a spade what it's exactly is - a spade, not a hoe or rake. Let everyone stay in their own lane. We don't need confusion, please. πŸ˜‚

Food is a necessity of life, we all need it to survive. I love good foods, and equally enjoy cooking. In fact, I'm a sucker for tasty homemade foods and local delicacies like abacha (African salad), α»₯gba (oil bean), α»₯kwa (African breadfruit), isi ewu nkwobi (goat head sauce), ikpaαΉ… nkukwo, and the rest. They're joy givers, I tell you.

Not only that, I'm beginning to love vegan recipes. The aroma and taste of vegan foods hit differently.

Wrapping up, I'll have to reiterate;

If you're a foodie, show yourself approved. But, if you have a mountainous appetite, please own it with your full chest. It's not a crime. Ịnα»₯go? Enjoy your life, but remember that you might be endangering your health if you continue this way.

Use your tongue and count your teeth. Don't mention, what are friends for.

You shared some mouth watering dishes on this post and now all I want to do is eat (no, I'm neither of the things you labeled in this post πŸ˜‚).
Also, I like that you spelt out the difference between being a glutton and being a foodie because clearly, many people do not know this difference.

(no, I'm neither of the things you labeled in this post πŸ˜‚).

Then you're either a picky or light eater, or maybe you're watching your weight. πŸ˜…

I actually knew that both terms had nothing in common, but seeing and hearing people claim being foodies when they're nothing but gluttons prompted me to share the post, and I'm glad we all are being enlightened.

I appreciate your visit and comment.

you nailed the difference between foodie and gluttony. Real foodies slow down to savor the experience, tiny bites that let the flavros sing, not a trophy plate and and a victory nap. Abacha and ugba deserve that kind of attention, same for vegan tweaks, so let the taste lead and the portions behave.

Exactly, foodies make eating an enjoyable experience unlike the gluttons whose interest is to shovel the food down and be on their way. πŸ˜‚

Abacha and ugba deserve that kind of attention

Indeed, they're always sought after in any event they make the menu. Seems like you're familiar with these delicacies.

Always appreciate your engagement.

True, the foodie vibe is about slow joy, not speed eating. Abacha and ugba really shine when you let the spices open up and and you pause between bites. i'm pretty fammiliar, especially when they come with crunchy garden egg and smoked fish. Do you like yours with palm oil thick and bright or a lighter touch?

Hmmm, I'm wondering how you know so much about the perfect blend of these delicacies, since you're India. Seems like you've eaten them before? πŸ€”

guilty as charged, I’ve actually had abacha and ugba a few times thanks to Nigerian friends and a cozy spot here, plus way too many YouTube grandma recipes. Once you get the palm oil right and the scent leaf balnce, the the flavors just sing and you learn fast by tasting small portions. Did I nail the combo or am I missing that sneaky crayfish kick?

Oh that's great.
Fair enough try but it's actually Utazi leaf (it's actually bitter) or akwα»₯kwọ aαΉ…ara (garden egg leaf) and prawn. πŸ˜…

Beautiful talk and nice explanation

Thank you.

Nothing de happen πŸ’ͺ

I am with you on this sis, with my full chest. How dare anyone claim gluttony and foodie is the same. They better read that definition five times over and memorize it like memory verse 😁😁

Gluttony is bad for the health. It is even a sin of food wastage and only depraved people do that.

It is like we need to form a foodie association on hive asap so that we can deal with this fake foodies πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I knew as a fellow foodie, you'd support me any day. πŸ˜‚
