In the 1970s I lived in San Clemente California. I worked for a wonderful lady who owned a dry-cleaning business. I was working for her for several months when my babysitter's husband got orders to go elsewhere. I had to work and did not have a babysitter. My boss bought a playpen and set it up in her dry cleaning business.
Several months later, she wanted me to run her store in the bus depot and told me to leave my child with her while I worked down there. Every evening after closing the store I was to carry the money I took in back to her store which was about 4 or 5 blocks away. I did not have a car so I walked it carrying a yellow plastic flowered purse with a zipper on top full of money, sometimes I would take in over a thousand dollars.
One evening two guys came in the store and I saw one of them stick a sweatshirt under his shirt and try to go out of the store. I stopped him but before security came he had put it back and since they did not have anything on them, they were let go.
They stayed in the depot and I felt like they were watching me. I did what I usually do to close the store and locked it up. I called the main store and explained what happened and how I felt but was told if I did not show up they would send someone looking for me, this was not the boss but another employee who I later was told that he did not believe they were a threat, it was all in my head.
I headed for the door and as I closed it I saw the two guys heading for it and two guys behind them. I thought they were all together. I was walking as fast as I could and even started to run when I saw one of them running toward me. He caught up to me and said he was going to walk me the rest of the way, he said that he and his buddy had seen what happened earlier and had been keeping an eye on the other two and he said when I went to leave they overheard them say they were going to rob me. Those two Marines are my unsung Heros...
My husband fished today, he came home in an unhappy mood and was soaked to the bone. It had been raining off and on all day and started blowing too hard for him to stay anchored so he came in. It was raining so hard that he hid under the US1 bridge, when it slacked off a little he made it to the railroad bridge. It quit long enough for him to get to the boat ramp. He took his raingear off and put them in the back of his truck and backed down the ramp, he got out of the truck and headed down the dock to his boat and the rain let loose, by the time he got his boat on the trailer and pulled up the ramp he was soaked and his raingear was soaked laying in the back of the truck. He caught 4 fish for all of that.
