This is my post for #freewriters 2261 prompt chop him up posted by @mariannewest

THIS IS NOT MY RABBIT, this happened about 10 years ago, but it might be one of Rudy's ancestors. My dog was barking and I saw the rattlesnake and him on opposite sides of our gate, the snake was raised face high to the rottweiler.

I first called the dog to me, and then to my husband to get his gun. After he shot the snake we saw a flower pot that was on its side moving, the rabbit had been bitten and was hiding in the flower pot. My husband had to speed the process of dying along. We both feel it is better to end an animal's life rather than watch them suffer when there is nothing we can do to help.

I guess it thought it could swallow the rabbit, it was as big as my husband.

My husband always eats the rattlesnakes when he has to kill one. We always just chop him up and fry it.

But this time "we" wanted to try it in a crock pot like a roast. DO NOT DO THIS, we were left with a pot of potatoes and bones.

This was the next one he got, it was 20 feet from our front door

Chopped up and fried, never again will I cook one in a crock pot.

Yeah, they turn to mush when boiled or cooked in a crock pot.

Mush is a good word for it.

Yeah and the taste is kind of nasty! Better to always either fry or bake snake in my experience.

Good to know ... we do have rattlesnakes in California ... should I kill one, fry it ... thanks ... I feel terrible for the rabbit, but your husband did the right thing and did not let it suffer long.

Thanks, some people would not see it that way but it is the best way to handle things like that.

Do you eat them by now or just your husband?
I assume a bitten rabbit can't be eaten or?

I wonder why the crockpot doesn't work.

🍀❤️

No, I have never eaten one. I tried it and it is good but I can not get my mind to wrap itself around it being food.

No, I do not think it would be good to eat a rabbit after being killed by a rattlesnake.

The crockpot did not work because all of the meat fell off of the bone and there are a lot of bones in a snake. He ate the meat, it was just a big mess of bones in the pot.

Oh now I understand why that pot doesn't work.

Thanks for sharing the taste. 😉
