The only time my husband wears shoes is when he goes into a store or it is cold outside. He has never stepped on a bee the entire time we have lived here, but this year we have huge patches of this in our yard and the bees love the blue flowers. One week he stepped on 4 of them, that was the week he started wearing shoes in the yard because he is allergic to bees.
Several months ago we had to hire someone to get bees from under our trailer, he had the smoking device in his hand. I wish I would have asked him if the smoke had a calming effect on them or was it some sort of entertainment for the bees, they were too busy flying through the smoke to sting you.
I made sure he was not going to kill them before hiring him, he told us he was a beekeeper and he wanted them.
He gave us 3 gallons of honey and then put a box under the trailer hoping the queen would go in it.
Instead of going in the box they started flying in a circle making a whooshing sound, then they all landed in the top of a pine tree. They stayed there overnight and in the morning they all flew to the north.
The beekeeper lost his bees, he said it happens, he said he has gotten them home before and they swarm and leave. He said it is part of keeping them.
But we still have plenty in our yard on the flowers.
